Career competencies, being central to the self-management and development of one's career, are necessary for proactive management of careers; they help to guide the individuals towards subjective career success which subsequently leads to organization success. However, there is a lack of career competencies intervention practices in the Malaysian public service. Therefore, this study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a user and expert centric mobile phone-based career intervention program of career competencies among Malaysian public managers. In this study, the Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) is adopted as the framework to develop mobile phone-based intervention for career competencies. Method: This is a sequential exploratory mixed method study which involves, in Phase 1, a qualitative approach: reviewing of literature and interviewing experts and public servants who are users of mobile phones so as to obtain their perspectives regarding the components in the career intervention module and mobile phone application features. A quantitative approach is implemented in Phase 2 that evaluates the mobile phone-based career intervention program. Validation will be conducted to meet the objectives of (i) the usability of the mobile communication career intervention application (survey), and (ii) evaluation of the effectiveness of the intervention program for career competencies delivered through mobile phone application (randomized controlled trial). The career intervention program consists of five modules through which development is based on reflective, communicative and behavioral dimensions. Outcome: The primary outcome of this study is career competencies. The career competencies score will be compared between participants in the intervention and control group at the baseline, and follow-ups at week four and week 12 respectively, using mixed design ANOVA. Discussion: The results from this study will indicate the effectiveness of the career intervention program for career competencies in the reformation of public services management. The intervention can serve as a new modality to enhance career competencies among public managers in Malaysia if its effectiveness is proven.

In order to reuse an up-cycled packaging product, the up-cycled packaging design must meet the users' aesthetic preferences. This paper attempts to document the key green aesthetics fundamentals for upgrading recycled packaging products. The purpose is in merging the green packaging concept with a suitable user's aesthetic, thus, formulating the unique packaging transformation. This paper presents the initial study that is based on a selection of literature reviews in order to capture the influencing factors that designers could consider in guiding unique packaging approaches; it describes the results of the literature survey on unique packaging, user aesthetics, appropriate aesthetics, and the current concepts of green packaging. This research proposes that applying innovative design concepts for green packaging and combining green aesthetic requirements for customers could encourage acceptance among the customers in the upgrading and transformation of unique packaging. The results of this study are recommended for the future development of a green aesthetics approach for a green product packaging process. The proposed approach is expected to guide designers to embrace up-cycling techniques, thereby contributing in reducing waste in the post fabrication life cycle.

Kampung Kuantan Fireflies Park (KKFP) in Kuala Selangor faced several complaints from tourists which were hypothesised to be associated with governance of the park. Social network analysis was utilised to identify the key stakeholders within the governance network of managing ecotourism and in understanding the interests and roles of these stakeholders. The network metrics used were number of edges, density, geodesic distance, and degree and betweenness centralities. The network metric and map obtained suggested that the local community boatmen had the highest degree and betweenness centralities in the KKFP social network. Inclusivity, particularly in the fireflies observation boat ride and tour services, had occurred but involvement in the management decision-making held by the district office could be improved. Possible explanations...

One of the problems causing a threat to public health is the sanitation system of timber houses b... more One of the problems causing a threat to public health is the sanitation system of timber houses built in water. The sanitation systems of these houses unfortunately dispose wastes directly into the natural water bodies, since the houses are not actually equipped with the proper sanitation system for disposing wastes from the toilets. The centralization of the waste disposal system is not used widely at tourist areas constructed on water due to technical and financial difficulties. This research requires gathering relevant data from various sources. Moreover, this project will utilize qualitative data collection tools, but is rooted in a qualitative epistemological position that signifies the importance of locating the research within a particular social and cultural house settlement. This paper surveys the literature on problems that arise from raw sewerage disposed into natural water bodies before any sanitation is proposed to solve the problem and how an individual sewage treatmen...

The accuracy of a knowledge may be distorted when recipient stakeholders fail to understand a specific knowledge for its purpose. Earlier studies by the authors had highlighted complex yet dynamic environmental operating environment in most planning approval procedure. The paper presents a recent completed doctoral study which attempted to apply the Malaysian One-Stop Centre planning process for the city of Accra, Ghana. It centres on the Discontinuity in Organizations (D-I-O) theory which proposes “Knowledge” as the seventh Contingency Factor in managing knowledge flows in such operating condition. The theoretical foundation describes how four dynamic operating characteristics which—when combined and not well-mitigated—could lead towards organizational performance failures hence the projects’ s...

In doing so, ensuring the movement of knowledge amongst the team members for a timely and within the budget implementation is a major concern because it impacts the long-term sustainability of the completed project. This study attempts to relate recent international findings to the Malaysian context, which recommended the need to look at the life span of property projects and proposing the development of tools and methodologies that could mitigate the knowledge-loss phenomenon. It found some similarities between housing development projects in USA with those of the local public projects. At the conclusion of this paper, it supports the recommendation for a systemic review of the local IBS delivery process by integrating 3D-CAD modelling during the housing development design process. The systemic IBS process is expected to promote a seamless transition towards 4D technology in the building phase.

However, the lack of awareness and misinterpretation on the “real user” during interior design process discourage the integration of Universal design (UD) in the built environment. For that reason, this study employed literature survey to identify how UD principles could support diverse users in the built environment. Then, we recognize how UD can be employed in the interior design process to meet this purpose. The results of this study contribute in recommending the integration of UD as a green interior design approach for accommodating diverse user in the Malaysian built environment.
