Every year, these countries export millions of dollars' worth of textile products to developed countries. However, textile industries use expensive and corrosive chemicals that pose a significant threat to environmental quality and public health. This has led to serious concerns and necessitated the inclusion of safer and environmentally friendly alternatives. Consequently, bio-based processing has created a new approach utilizing biotechnological advances. This article uses evidence from the scientific literature to examine the application of industrial biotechnology in textile-processing industries, which includes enzymes, as a sustainable alternative to the harsh toxic chemicals currently used in textile processing. The article draws on evidence that enzymes offer a competitive advantage over chemicals with less resource requirements (energy and water), reduced emission and less waste. Due to high specificity, enzymes produce minimum byproducts. The implementation of enzymes in textile processing could offer environmental benefits, and improve public health and the sustainability of textiles and apparel. This article contributes to critical awareness by providing succinct information about major enzymes used in textile processes to improve the performance of textile materials, thus contributing to changes in behaviours and 2 attitudes towards textile processing and environmental sustainability. This can assist textile manufacturers and governments in the developing world in campaigns to promote biotechnologies for environmental sustainability.

Likewise, this behaviour is also moderated by psychic distance. The findings of this research promote export designing, the building of an appropriate international market competitiveness and growth-focused policies for the Chilean service sector. Such policies should be targeted to build a conductive local ecosystem supporting the reduction of the early mortality in young firms in process of internationalisation and thus reducing the rate of discontinuing export by mature firms and therefore extending the longevity of mature firms in the international market. Such policies should be devised on short, medium and long-term perspectives. These policies can be equally important to the service sectors in other developing countries facing similar challenges.

All the data and information that have been used in this extensive survey based study were collected from various prim ary sources. It is found that though both management and employees have positive attitude towards performance appraisal, organizations do not practice it in a systematic manner. It is also found that organizations hardly follow any structured method of performance appraisal and they use it mainly for taking punitive measures. It is concluded that organizations should develop a structured system of performance appraisal that should have implication on all the related aspects of human resources management.

Research Design & Methods: Scholars from the International Business and International Entrepreneurship (IE) research fields agree that the process of internationalisation is triggered by opportunity identification. The extant literature is reviewed by assessing the framework conditions that domestic and international markets offer for entrepreneurial actions. An analytical juxtaposition of the influential factors is conducted in the light of various stages of the opportunity identification process by examining − at each stage − possible effects of domes1c and interna1onal market context. Findings: This paper brings into the IE discussion a conceptual matrix of various elements and factors − external condi1ons-which influence the creation of nexus by entrepreneurs to the markets. Implications & Recommendations: The conceptual matrix offers new insights for theoretical development and arguments for designing empirical research in terms of external conditions. It is expected to provoke more theoretical and practical questions from scholars within the IE field. Contribution & Value Added: The originality of this work lies in proposing a comprehensive framework to understand how context interacts with the entrepreneurial opportunity identification process.

Previous works on TC have generally not paid much attention to the improvement of TC in the micro and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This paper shows how the mediator role of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) on the relationship between networking capability (NC) and absorptive capacity (AC) of firms contributes significantly to the improvement of TC in the micro and SMEs in Colombia. developing difficult-to-copy organizational abilities" (Panda & Ramanathan, 1996, p.562). From this perspective TC has the ability to enhance another capability such as marketing capability, but what gives an advantage to the firm is the understanding of how the new enhanced capability works. Following this line, Ortega (2009) points out that TC is the firm's ability to perform technical functions, to develop new products and processes and to operate the firm's facilities effectively. It is necessary to highlight the fact that the main goal of TC is to have an impact on products and/or processes. TC is not found exclusively at the production plant level, but can also be found at various levels of the organization; for example Morrison, Pietrobelli and Rabelloti (2007) analyze TC as "skills-technical, managerial or organizationalthat firms need in order to utilize efficiently the hardware (equipment) and software (information) of technology and to accomplish any process of technological change" (Morrison, et.al., 2007, p.5). Likewise, Hobday and Rush (2007) point out the process of accumulation of knowledge, experience and skills; furthermore these authors sees TC as a key element to using technology within a firm, as well as to achieving competitive advantage. Their definition of TC is "the accumulated knowledge, skill, experience and organizational base which enable a firm to acquire, develop and use technology to achieve competitive advantage" (Hobday & Rush, 2007, p.1341). The above definitions highlight various issues about TC at the firm level. Because this research investigates at the firm level, the definition of TC must be rewritten to include the features that a firm has to confront in the use of technology. For this reason this paper will use the Linsu Kim's definition. Kim (1997) defined TC as "the ability to make effective use of technological knowledge in efforts to assimilate, use, adapt, and change existing technologies, which may result in development of technology and development of new products and process in response to changing economic environment" (Kim, 1997, p.86). For this study the use of such definition is important because it posits the broadest role of TC at the firm level. Because of the relevance of knowledge to enhance TC, it is important to go back one step in the analysis to understand how firms can obtain this knowledge and how they can put that knowledge to use in a practical way which can support the improvement of TC. Firms have their own partners as external sources of technical knowledge. Normally companies network to have access to information or knowledge that can advance their technological development. Additionally, firms have to be entrepreneurial during their activities to overcome their competitors. This entrepreneurial attitude steers the way in which firms use the acquired knowledge from external sources and put that knowledge into process and products. This scenario describes the reality that micro and SMEs confront on a daily basis. This paper focuses on exploration of the factors that contribute to the improvement of TC within micro and SMEs in Colombia. In doing so, the main contribution of this paper is the analysis of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) as a mediator on the relationship between networking capability (NC) and absorptive capacity (AC). A firm can have a useful network of partners as well as the ability to efficiently absorb and apply knowledge, but it is the firm's EO that intervenes to maximize the interaction between both capabilities and their results. This study examines EO, NC and AC because their characteristics (that promote improvement, adaptation and innovation) can enhance the positive effect of AC on a firm's TC. This paper particularly investigates the micro and SMEs which are technology intensive in their operations and which are tagged with the large firms in different industries as their suppliers. These firms generally produce tailor-made products and offer customized solutions to their clients. These companies are known as the technology-intensive suppliers (t-suppliers) 2 (Dornberger & Torres, 2006), which are noted for their contribution to expanding the backward linkage bases (Hirschman, 1958) of different industries in different parts of the world and for there by adding momentum to the national catching-up process (Herniesnemi & et al., 1996; Ramos, 2001; De Obschatko, 1997). This paper is organized as follows: the next two sections offer the theoretical foundation for the model regarding the connection between NC, EO, AC and TC. The methodology section presents the procedures used to test the hypothesis, and the next section reports the results of the analysis. The discussion section considers the theoretical and practical implications of the findings. The paper ends with the conclusions developed from the results obtained. *All indicators were measured with a 1-7 point Likert scale: 1=totally disagree. 2= disagree.3= partially disagree. 4= indifferent.5= partially agree.6= agree.7= totally agree.

Design/methodology/approach The proposed hypotheses are tested with a survey data set of 148 Kenyan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to assess the pre-internationalisation decision-making of the firm. Multinomial logistic regression has been used to predict the categories from total effectuation to total causation. Findings The results of this study show that firm resources and capability provide a solid basis for firms' internationalisation. The entrepreneur becomes more effectual commence as they assess the firm's resource and capability. Entrepreneurs with a high entrepreneurial self-efficacy use both causation and effectuation with a bias towards effectuation. Increasing environmental predictability led the firms to use less effectuation, and increasing psychic distance entails high effectuation relative to high causation in the Keny...

Traditional pottery product has been integrated into the global construction industry with few local entrepreneurs and agents. This international integration has produced an immediate standard set of economic and social outcomes as increased income, reduced migration, and reduced decay of the culture of the potter communities. Recently, the development of more durable and cheaper mass-produced alternatives to traditional potteries has pushed the traditional pottery industry, the livelihood, and the potter communities' cultures almost to the brink of extinction of the potters of Bangladesh. This research aims to assess the environmental and livelihood aspect of the export-oriented handmade clay tiles of Kolaroa Upazila its significance in local economic development. For this purpose, the economic and social contributions of clay tiles toward the liveli...

The study has been conducted by reviewing the literature on social entrepreneurship, SB, and internationalization of small business. The study indicated that the internationalization decision for SB is taken by the motivation to create a social impact in the target foreign location. Based on the analyses and related literature, the entrepreneur-specific, firm-specific, and context-specific factors affecting the internationalization decision of social entrepreneurs are presented. As part of the framework, the chapter explains opportunity identification and the internationalization implementation phases for SBs. One of the key contributions of the chapter is the depiction of an internationalization framework for SB, which is an innovative addition to social entrepreneurship literature. The framework developed here could help social entrepreneurs to take decisions for scaling their businesses internationally.

Researches on the role of technology on economic development have emphasized two main issues. Firstly, they paid attention to the emerging market countries adapting the imported technologies have become a decisive factor in their ability to catch up. These studies emphasized on the industry and country phenomena, where the firm-level phenomena have not much emphasized (Caniels and Romijn, 2003; and Archibugi and Coco, 2004). Secondly, researches on the relationship between TC of the emerging market countries small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their export performance are required to generate better understanding (Figueiredo, 2002; and Guifu and Hongjia, 2009). Thailand is ranked 6th developing country exporter by The World Bank. 99% of the enterprises in Thailand are SMEs (OSMEP 2010). They are dominant players in some of Thailand’s maj...

Also, this paper tries to find out whether the decision-making approach, effectuation, can moderate the pathway between risk tolerance and internationalization speed.Design/methodology/approachA hypothetico-deductive methodology has been used to conduct this study. Using partial least square regression, this study tested and proved two developed hypotheses based on a sample of 101 software and IT-enabled services firms in Bangladesh. The sample was selected using non-probability sampling techniques, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire developed from the extant literature.FindingsAll of the hypotheses proposed in this study have been accepted. The results show that the effectual approach of decision-making negates the risk perception of the entrepreneur and speeds up the internationalization process of that firm.Research limitations/implicati...

Several studies confirmed that entrepreneurs are more likely to have ADHD than their non-entrepreneur counterpart. Consistently with this finding, the majority of entrepreneurs of Bangladesh also possess some degree of ADHD characteristics. Among the entrepreneurs who have ADHD, majority possess borderline ADHD. The level of ADHD is found to vary in terms of different demographic composition (such as gender education and age) of the entrepreneurs. Male entrepreneurs are more likely to be ADHD type than female entrepreneur. Less significant variation is found in ADHD existence among entrepreneurs of different education level. ADHD characteristics are found more among older entrepreneurs than younger entrepreneurs.

Considering the high importance of ECs, it particularly looks at their direct and indirect impacts on international market diversification (IMD) and profitability. We contribute to the growing research in special areas of internationalisation of SMEs and underscored particular competencies for internationalisation, their interactions and relationships as well as implications for small exporting firms in Ghana and their international performance. Primary data was collected through a survey of 134 small exporting firms from different sectors in Ghana and analysed with structural equation modelling, which was made of nine constructs. The study showed that five identified ECs have direct positive effects on IMD, which also leads to a superior rate of profitability. It furthermore highlighted the mediation effect of IMD which caused indirect effects of ECs on profitability.
