In the present study a relative measure of return to former leisure and social activities (LSA) was tested in 366 myocardial infarction (MI) patients. Next, the hypothesis that psychosocial factors are more important predictors for return to LSA than medical ones, was tested. It appeared that at baseline (3 weeks after MI) 36%) at post-test (3 months after MI) 51% and at follow-up (1 year after MI) 54%, reached former levels of LSA. It could be shown, both in multiple regression analysis and path analysis, that psychological vulnerability at baseline is the most important predictor of return to former LSA. Females, older patients, single patients and patients with angina pectoris showed an unfavorable psychological profile at baseline. It is suggested that more attention should be given to the improvement of the psychological status soon after Ml for the categories of patients mentioned.

To study this, 358 acute MI pts treated with thrombolytic therapy were investigated. Sum of ST deviation (ΣST) and QRS score of the 12 lead ECG were calculated at 3 time points during the first 48 hours: ECG 1: on admission (mean 90 min alter onset of MI), ECG 2: mean 9 hours alter MI, and ECG 3: mean 36 hours after MI. ECG's were related to the TIMI flow determined from the last view of angiography 60 and 90 min after start of thrombolytic therapy. Results ECGTIMI TIMI 2 30/1 2/3N 46 24864 294ΣST116.1ns15.515.4ns15.6(mm)26.5ns5.310.2***5.5 35.1ns4.76.1*4.8ORS-12.9ns2.92.6ns2.9score23.9ns4.54.5ns4.4 35.1ns5.26.3**5.2*p < 0.05**p < 0.01***p < 0.0001ConclusionTIMI 2 patients have significantly less ECG changes at 9 hours and later than patients with TIMI 0/1 flow. Electrocardiographically, patients with TIMI2 flow behave like pts with TIMI 3 flow.

Open and distance learning (ODL) gives learners control of the time, place, and pace of learning,... more Open and distance learning (ODL) gives learners control of the time, place, and pace of learning, often being characterized as flexible learning. However, this flexibility goes hand-in-hand with procrastination and non-completion. As a result, the efficiency of the educational process is of importance to ODL providers, government funding agencies, and learners themselves. Despite its importance, measuring efficiency in ODL is problematic. This article presents a case study in measuring educational efficiency using a method which reflects the special characteristics of ODL. The article concludes with a discussion of the wider applicability of the measurement method in the context of lifelong learning.
