Effective comprehensive care of drug addicted women has been shown to improve maternal and neonatal out- comes. The Center for Addiction and Pregnancy (CAP) combines the disciplines of pediatrics, substance abuse treatment, obstetrics~gynecology, and family planning in an effort to reduce the barriers to care often presenting in this subpopulation. For the first 100 CAP births, 82% were delivered vaginally, with a mean gestational age of 38 weeks. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit admission rate was 10%, and the Bayley Scales of lnfant Development performed at 6 and 12 months revealed mean developmental indices within the normal range. In a comparison study, a group of CAP participants had nearly $5,000 savings in costs when compared to a matched cohort. The CAP model of care appears to be an effective mode of treatment for substance abusing pregnant women. Copyright © 1996 Elsevier Science Inc. Keywords-su...

Using Hofstede's theory, determinants were used to predict job satisfaction for each region and then compared to determine significant differences. Data was collected from a proprietary industry survey on employee work attitudes. The sample consisted of over 70,000 employees from 4 large multinational organizations. Data was analyzed using regression analysis and comparison testing across models. There are significant relationships between job characteristics and job satisfaction across all regions of the world, with a sense of achievement universally the most important driver. Although job characteristics impact job satisfaction across all regions, there are significant differences in the relative importance of job characteristics on job satisfaction, consistent with Hofstede's cultural dimensions. The findings have implications for tailoring human resource management practices across locations within multinationals. This research is believed to be the first cross-cultural study of the job determinants affecting job satisfaction using multiple organizations and industries.

High-performance human resource practices were used to predict job satisfaction for each region and then compared to determine significant differences. Hofstede's cultural dimensions were employed as a basis for structuring hypothesized differences across cultural regions. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from a proprietary industry survey on employee work attitudes. The sample consisted of over 70,000 employees from four large multinational organizations with at least four offices in each of the four regions. Data were analyzed using regression analysis and comparison testing across models. Findings – There are significant relationships between job characteristics and job satisfaction across all regions of the world, with a sense of achievement universally t...

Initial analyses revealed differences in sexual drive, liberal attitude, and both masculine and feminine gender‐role affiliation. When demographic differences between the two groups were statistically controlled, however, only liberal attitude and femininity subscale differences remained significant. Although both opioid‐dependent and comparison group women reported similar types of sexual experiences (lifetime), opioid‐dependent women reported greater recent reduction in sexual behaviors related to anal intercourse and anal stimulation. Both opioid‐dependent and clinic women differed significantly from the DSFI normative sample, highlighting the importance of controlling for demographic differences when using standardized psychological assessment tools. Implications of study findings...

We evaluated the effect of providing error-flagging as support for error detection, but not error correction while the student is solving a problem. We found that providing error-flagging in addition to demand feedback during practice learning was no more effective than providing only demand feedback when the tutor did not explicitly mention that errors were being flagged. On the other hand, explaining and providing error-flagging without demand feedback during pre-and post-tests resulted in significantly better scores on pre-and post- ...
