Perie Longo

Perie J. Longo, PhD, LMFT has been in private practice since 1990. Also, a Registered Poetry Therapist, she facilitates poetry therapy groups for Sanctuary Centers (1991) and Hospice of Santa Barbara (2002), Active in the National Association for Poetry Therapy (NAPT), she has served as President (2005-07) and as a long-time mentor/supervisor for those seeking certification in this field. In 1998, was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award from NAPT and in 2004 their Distinguished Service Award.  In 2018 she was awarded the Pioneer Award for "exemplary work that advances the study and practice of poetry therapy.” The Association of Women in Communication, Santa Barbara Chapter, awarded her with the Woman of Achievement Award in 2012. In 2005, she was invited by the University of Kuwait to speak about the power of poetry as a path for healing and peace. Her Alma Mater, Mount Mary University, awarded her with the 2020 Madonna Medal for Professional Achievement. She is poetry chair for the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. Author of four books of poetry, she has been published in over fifty literary journals, and published articles about poetry as well as the therapeutic process.
