To this end, the SYNERGY energy data platform builds on state-of-the-art data management, sharing, and analytics technologies, driven by the actual needs of the electricity data value chain. This paper will describe the layered SYNERGY Reference Architecture that consists of a Cloud Infrastructure, On-Premise Environments, and Energy Apps and discuss the main challenges and solutions adopted for (a) the design of custom pipelines for batch and streaming data collection and for data manipulation and analytics (based on baseline or pre-trained machine learning and deep learning algorithms) and (b) their scheduled, on-event, or real-time execution on the cloud, on-premise and in gateways, toward an energy data space. Particular focus will be laid on the design of the SYNERGY AI analytics marketplace that allows for trustful sharing of data assets (i.e., datasets, pipelines, trained AI models, analytics results) which belong to different stakeholders, through a multi-party smart contract mechanism powered by blockchain technologies.

The current strategy of supporting breast cancer patients does not meet their needs due to the limited personalized-based approach in rehabilitation plan and the lack of healthcare, financial and other resources. ASCAPE (Artificial intelligence Supporting CAncer Patients across Europe) is a collaborative research project involving 15 partners from 7 countries, including academic medical centers, small and medium-sized enterprises, research centers and universities, aiming to leverage the recent advances in Big Data and AI (Artificial Intelligence) to support cancer patients’ QoL and health status. Specifically, ASCAPE aims to provide personalized- and AI-based predictions for QoL issues in breast cancer patients as well as suggest potential interventions to their physicians. Trial design During the first part of the project, large-scale ret...

Consent management enables the tracking, monitoring and managing the personal data lifecycle in a GDPR compliant manner, and improves customers’ control over their data, empowering them to manage their consent throughout its lifecycle. However, traditional technologies have failed to become a key enabler of trust, due to multiple security/data tampering incidents. This chapter introduces a blockchain-empowered Consent Management System (CMS). It aims at presenting the design and implementation of a robust CMS, enabling the sharing of customers’ consent, thus facilitating the exchange and the utilization of customer data, across different banking institutions. The proposed CMS implementation will enable the financial institutions to effectively manage and share their customers’ consents in a transpar...

Mobility tracking of elderly people facilitates the extraction of useful spatiotemporal characteristics regarding their activities and behavior at home. Currently, the analysis of human mobility is based on expensive technologies. In this paper, we propose a semantic interoperability agent which exploits mobility tracking and spatiotemporal characteristics to extract human profiling and give incentives for mobilization at home. The agent exploits an extended ontology which facilitates the collation of evidence for the effects of exergaming on the movement control of older adults. In order to provide personalized monitoring services, a number of rules are individually defined to generate incentives. To evaluate the proposed semantic interoperability agent, human mobility data are collected...

The aviation industry as well as the industries that benefit and are highly dependent or linked to it (e.g. tourism, health, security, transport, public administration) are ripe for innovation in the form of Big Data analytics. Leveraging Big Data requires the effective and efficient analysis of huge amounts of unstructured data that are harnessed and processed towards revealing trends, unseen patterns, hidden correlations, and new information, and towards immediately extracting knowledgeable information that can enable prediction and decision making. Conceptually, the big data lifecycle can be divided into three main phases: i) the data acquisition, ii) the data storage and iii) the data analytics. For each phase, the number of available big data technologies and tools that exploit these technologies is constantly growing, while at the same time the existing tools are rapidly evolving and empowered with new features. However, the Big Data era comes with new challenges and one of the crucial challenges faced nowadays is how to effectively handle information security while managing massive and rapidly evolving data from heterogeneous data sources. While multiple technologies and techniques have emerged, there is a need to find a balance between multiple security requirements, privacy obligations, system performance and rapid dynamic analysis on diverse large data sets. The current paper aims to introduce the ICARUS Secure Experimentation Sandbox of the ICARUS platform. The ICARUS platform aims to provide a big data-enabled platform that aspires to become an "one-stop shop" for aviation data and intelligence marketplace that provides a trusted and secure "sandboxed" analytics workspace, allowing the exploration, curation, integration and deep analysis of original, synthesized and derivative data characterized by different velocity, variety and volume in a trusted and fair manner. Towards this end, a Secure The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.

The chapter aims to answer some of the fundamental questions raised by this, including which is the most appropriate technology for such a networking architecture, what is the best topology for home monitoring wireless sensor network solutions, and what is the performance of the wireless networking technologies. In addition, it aims to initiate some brainstorming as regards how many interoperability protocols we actually need, presenting the strong and weak points of most of the current interoperability standards utilized in the field of homecare, with emphasis on the encoding and formatting of ElectroCardioGram (ECG) waveforms. Last but not least it aims to pinpoint other important issues in the field of homecare, such as legal and safety issues which are worth of consideration.

Yet, contemporary information access and distribution technologies raise critical issues that urgently need to be addressed, especially those related to security. The paper suggests the use of watermarking in telemedical applications in order to enhance security of the transmitted sensitive medical data, familiarizes the users with a telemedical system and a watermarking module that have already been developed, and proposes an architecture that will enable the integration of the two systems, taking into account a variety of use cases and application scenarios.

However, this new homecare service provision model raises several issues regarding the credibility of the data transmitted. From the plethora of available technologies to support the formulation ofWPAN for homecare, literature has shown that IEEE 802.15.4 is probably the most suitable. The scope of the current paper is to evaluate the performance of an 802.15.4 star network under the interference of an 802.11 wireless network in real life conditions and for varied network traffic for homecare telemedicine services.

In general, wireless networks suffer from decreased security. However, digital watermarking can be used to secure medical information. In this study, we focused on combining wireless transmission and digital watermarking technologies to better secure the transmission of medical images within and outside the hospital. Methods: We utilized an integrated system comprising the wireless network and the digital watermarking module to conduct a series of tests. Results: The test results were evaluated by medical consultants. They concluded that the images suffered no visible quality degradation and maintained their diagnostic integrity. Discussion: The proposed integrated system presented reasonable stability, and its performance was comparable to that of a fixed network. This system can enhance security during the transmission of medical images through a wireless channel.

Therefore, in an era of continuous growth, IoT healthcare faces various challenges, such as the collection, the quality estimation, as well as the interpretation and the harmonization of the data that derive from the existing huge amounts of heterogeneous IoT medical devices. Even though various approaches have been developed so far for solving each one of these challenges, none of these proposes a holistic approach for successfully achieving data interoperability between high-quality data that derive from heterogeneous devices. For that reason, in this manuscript a mechanism is produced for effectively addressing the intersection of these challenges. Through this mechanism, initially, t...
