Comparison of different irrigation and agitation methods for the removal of two types of calcium ... more Comparison of different irrigation and agitation methods for the removal of two types of calcium hydroxide medicaments from the root canal walls. Fifty extracted single rooted teeth were selected for this study. After decoronation, the root canals of these teeth were prepared to the size F3 (30 no.) using rotary ProTaper file system. These samples were randomly divided into four groups. Group 1 (n=20) were filled completely with water based calcium hydroxide (CH), Group 2 (n=20) were filled with oil based CH using lentulo spiral, Group 3 (n=5) - the positive control group received the CH as intracanal medication, but no subsequent removal, Group 4 (n=5) - the negative control did not receive CH placement. Stereomicroscopic Evaluation of Sealing Ability of Four Different Root Canal Sealers- An invitro Study

The most commonly used core material for root canal filling is gutta-percha and as the gutta-perc... more The most commonly used core material for root canal filling is gutta-percha and as the gutta-percha by itself cannot obturate the complete root canal system, owing to its poor sealing properties hence, a sealer is used in combination with root filling material. Sealer is more important than the core obturating material. Sealer plays a secondary role by merely reinforcing (binding or luting) the gutta-percha to the canal walls, however, it is now confirmed that the sealer has a prime role in sealing the canal by blocking the irregularities between the canal space and the core filling material. To investigate the effectiveness of the apical seal obtained by different sealers used in conjugation with cold lateral condensation technique of obturation using gutta-percha under stereomicroscope. One hundred single-rooted extracted human permanent teeth with a single root canal were used in this in-vitro study. The sealers tested were conventional Zinc oxide eugenol sealer, Apexit, AH-Plus and Roekoseal Automix (RSA). The specimens were examined under a stereomicroscope. For the analysis of data Snedocor&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s F test for the quality of variances among the experimental group and control group (One-Way ANOVA) were employed. The polydimethylsiloxane endodontic root canal sealer RSA provided a significantly better apical seal followed by AH plus and Apexit whereas conventional zinc oxide eugenol showed the lowest sealing ability. It was concluded that there were statistically significant differences amongst the experimental groups. The shrinkage related to setting and potential dissolution might risk the proper seal of the root canal leading to treatment failure.

We report a case where 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) gluconate was mistaken for an anesthetic solution a... more We report a case where 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) gluconate was mistaken for an anesthetic solution and infiltrated into the buccal vestibule during routine root canal treatment. Accidentally, 2% CHX gluconate solution was injected in the right upper buccal vestibule (16) of a 23-year-old male during routine root canal treatment. The patient experienced pain and a burning sensation over the injected area shortly after injection. Swelling with mild extraoral redness over the right cheek area was observed clinically. The patient was immediately administered dexamethasone intramuscularly, and was prescribed antibiotics, analgesics, and antihistamines. The patient complained of a loss of sensation over the right cheek by the 15(th) day. The swelling reduced gradually over a period of 15 days. Reversal of sensation was attained after 35 days.

The treatment of a fractured tooth involving the pulp includes root canal therapy and post placement followed by core build-up or by the extraction of the fractured tooth if it is not restorable. We report a case of an adult male who had traumatized both his maxillary central incisors following a blow experienced during domestic violence. He had lost a fractured fragment of the right central incisor, while the left incisor had complicated fractures with fragments retained attached to the soft tissue. Following radiovisiography (RVG), both incisors were conservatively treated in a single visit by reattachment and post and core techniques. The treatment reported for reattachment of the tooth fractures and post and core techniques are reasonably easy while providing immediate and lasting results in patients&amp;amp;amp;amp;#39; regaining of social confidence and functionality.

Fracture of anterior teeth is a relatively common outcome of trauma to the teeth. If the fracture... more Fracture of anterior teeth is a relatively common outcome of trauma to the teeth. If the fractured teeth fragments are recovered by the patient and brought to the dental office within reasonable time, the fragments may be reattached to the tooth structure. This article presents a case of a 20-year-old man with fractured maxillary central incisors and left maxillary lateral incisor. The fracture involved two-thirds of the crown, compromising the pulp. The procedure used was reattachment of the fractured fragment with bonding system and dual-cure composite resin cement. The techniques described in this case report for reattachment of the fractured fragments are reasonably simple, while restoring providing long-lasting esthetics, improved function, positive psychologic response with a very conservative approach.

In the presented case, the conventional approach of dissecting the pulp stone was not considered, as radiographically the calcification was extending up to the apex of the palatal root canal and the separation of the coronal and radicular pulp stone would have risked the obliteration of its orifice. A new set of ultrasonic endodontic tips were used for the removal of significantly large pulp stone in single mass.

The cutaneous sinus tract of maxillary dental origin is a rare but, a well-documented condition. ... more The cutaneous sinus tract of maxillary dental origin is a rare but, a well-documented condition. However, several non-odontogenic disorders may also produce an extra-oral sinus tract. The diagnosis is a perplexity unless the treating operator considers the occurent of its dental origin. Such patients may undergo multiple surgical excisions and antibiotic therapy, but the treatment fails with the recurrence of the lesion, because the primary etiology is misdiagnosed. This case report describes a non-surgical endodontic therapy performed in relation with right maxillary first molar (# 16) which was misdiagnosed earlier. The confirmatory diagnosis was made by injection of radio-opaque contrast followed by Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan. The condition was diagnosed as chronic periradicular abscess with # 16 draining to an extra oral cutaneous sinus tract opening in right malar region. A successful outcome is observed after non-surgical endodontic treatment during follow-up of five years.
