An online dialogue has resulted to an engaging interactive communicative entertainment because of the use of these digital images. This has become an effective way to convey thoughts and feelings that greatly influenced the 21st century youth. The use of memes has been an exceptional tool on engaging conversation, especially emotions that is hard to express using words alone. The focus of this study was to look into the after-effect on the self-expression of the Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences students of University of Baguio in the use of these digital images. It aimed to know the significance of memes in their social and academic endeavors with regards to the advantages and disadvantages of using memes when interacting with classmates, friends, and teachers. Findings revealed that a student uses memes more frequent with friends than classmates, and rarely use memes when they interact with their teachers. It showed that memes plays a major role in developing a bond with other classmates and connects their ideas on certain topics while it strengthens their relationship with their friends in an emotional level. Memes also made it easier for them to understand their classmates and friends more, and express their complex ideas easier. While other students also experienced being offended by memes from their classmates and friends and created conflict on their group. In terms of their relationship with teachers, most of them do not use memes as a way of interaction because they see it as a sign of “disrespect”. They feared that the teacher might get offended, and stated that memes have no significance in their studentteacher relationship. On the other hand, some students agreed that they can understand their lessons better through the use of memes. Based on the gathered data, it is concluded that memes have become a factor on student’s self-expression and has a significant role in establishing relationship with classmates and friends. This is because it gives comfort and a better understanding with each other while also makes them feel the belongingness in the group. With regards to its disadvantage, memes can also cause conflicts because of misinterpretation and irresponsible usage. Likewise, most students do not use memes when communicating with teachers because they consider it as unprofessional and disrespectful.
