The study aims to investigate the awareness, readiness of submitting research outputs and use of ... more The study aims to investigate the awareness, readiness of submitting research outputs and use of the proposed institution repository in the university library among academics of Nigeria Maritime University Library, Okerenkoko, Delta State. This study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised 351 academic staff of the University. The study adopted purposive sampling techniques to selected 120 respondents useful to the study. Questionnaire method was used to elicit data from the respondents. The data collected from the respondents were analyzed using tables, descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that, the academic staff in Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) have low awareness in the existence of Institutional Repository (IR) in Nigeria universities. The study also shows that academics are ready to submit their research outputs as well utilize the proposed IR in the university library. The study further shows that, there is no significant relationship between awareness and readiness in submitting research works to the IR, but significant relationship exists between awareness and readiness to utilize the proposed Institutional Repository (IR). The study concluded that the academics in NMU are aware of IR in Nigeria universities but, the awareness level is low. However, the academics are ready to submit their research outputs as well use of the proposed institution repository. Arising from the findings some recommendations were made to include: embarking on awareness programmes to enlighten both students, nonteaching and teaching staff on the importance and relevancy of IR in teaching and learning and research; not leave the burden or the responsibilities of enlightenment programmes on the University Library alone as well putting relevant policies to ensure mandatory submission of postgraduate students' thesis or dissertations and staff research works and other relevant working documents in the institution.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the availability of various institutional repository ... more The purpose of this study is to investigate the availability of various institutional repository policies that guide the development of institutional repositories in university libraries in Nigeria. The study adopted IRs investigation and interview method to collect data on IR policies, challenges from the 19 IRs in Nigeria. The study brought to light some of the IR related policies to guide the implementation and management of contents in institutional repositories. The challenges repository administrators/librarians encountered in the process of developing and implementing IRs in Nigerian universities were also identified. Some of the challenges includes: lack of fund; inadequate facilities; absence of IR related policies; challenge of collecting contents from various contributors; considering copyright issues; lack of mandatory self-archiving policy; lack of interest from contributors to submit to IR. Therefore, the study called for universities intending to establish IR to consider making policy statements related to IRs such as access policy, content policy, submission policy, preservation policy to guide the successful development and management of IRs.

<jats:p>The study aimed to investigate the challenges and prospects of cataloguing and clas... more <jats:p>The study aimed to investigate the challenges and prospects of cataloguing and classification in academic libraries in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study was made up of 66 practicing librarians who attended the Nigerian Library Association, Bayelsa State chapter 2018 annual conference held in Yenagoa. Questionnaire entitled "Challenges and Prospects of Cataloguing and Classification Questionnaire (CPCCQ)" that contained close-ended items was used to collect data for the study. The findings revealed, inadequate staff, lack of up-to-date tools, difficulties of cataloguing and classifying of backlogged, inadequate motivation, etc. as some challenges militating against the technical sections of the academic libraries studied. The study also reveals, increase advocacy for library automation, available training opportunities outside the State, the introduction of information management system, accelerated movement from manual to computerized method, etc as indication of brighter future or good prospect for the technical sections of the libraries studied. Base on the findings some recommendations were made.</jats:p>
