Centaurea benedicta L., commonly known as “cardo santo,” is used as a tonic, antidepressant, anti... more Centaurea benedicta L., commonly known as “cardo santo,” is used as a tonic, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiseptic in traditional medicine. This study evaluated the topical anti-inflammatory potential of an extract (ECB) and cnicin (CNI) from C. benedicta leaves in a mouse model. Activity was assessed using the ear edema method with croton oil, phenol, capsaicin, and histamine as phlogistic agents. Myeloperoxidase (MPO), N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG), nitric oxide (NO), t umor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), interleukin 6 (IL-6), and histopathology were assessed as markers of edema/inflammation. Interaction profiles between CNI and cyclooxygenase-1 and -2, induced nitric oxide synthase, and glucocorticoid receptor were examined with molecular docking. The present study evaluated the total phenolic and flavonoid contents and the antioxidant and cyt... more The present study evaluated the total phenolic and flavonoid contents and the antioxidant and cytotoxic properties of Eremanthus erythropappus. Dried and powdered of E. erythropappus leaves were extracted with ethanol by static maceration followed by partition to obtain the hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and butanol fractions. Phytochemical screening and the total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH, reducing power of Fe +3 and β-carotene/linoleic acid assays. The cytotoxic test was performed by brine shrimp lethality bioassay. Tannins, flavonoids, coumarins, terpenoids and steroids and saponins were detected in the ethanol extract and fractions. In these samples, the total phenolic and flavonoid contents ranged from 0.98 ± 0.15 to 16.27 ± 0.23 g/100 g and 0.84 ± 0.06 to 5.09 ± 0.22 g/100 g, respectively. Information behavior (IB) research in LIS and Health Information Seeking Behavior (HISB) in Healt... more Information behavior (IB) research in LIS and Health Information Seeking Behavior (HISB) in Health Medicine are two subject areas of research that have matured in the past few decades. This research aimed to compare these two research areas using a bibliometric approach. To conduct this study two distinct datasets were created using the Scopus database: a) bibliographic records of IB in the LIS domain, and b) bibliographic records of the HISB domain. The bibliometric analysis was performed according to the following criteria: published papers, citations, journal articles, author keywords, unique words in the title, words preceding "information" in the title, words preceding "study" in the title, and author keywords along with index keywords. As a result, the major differences in the two IB research areas were evident in terms of definitions, main focus, and general demographic groups. These varying types of differences suggest that researchers of the two areas should have flexibility when examining issues related to IB by considering the context and the unique distinction between the two fields.

The chemical composition of EODL was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Acetic acid-induced writhing, formalin, hot plate and tail-immersion methods were used to evaluate the antinociceptive effect in mice. In this study, the biopharmacotechnical and physical properties of film-coated tablets containing rutin marketed in drugstores were evaluated. Using samples from three batches called A, B and C, we determined the average weight, disintegration time, hardness, content and dissolution profile, and kinetics of the tablets. The samples demonstrated average weight of 457.45 ± 12.32 to 449.15 ± 8.95 mg; disintegration time, 30.17 ± 2.14 to 15.17 ± 2.14 min; hardness, 1.92 ± 0.55 to 1.69 ± 0.36 Kgf; and rutin content, 18.34 ± 1.21 to 15.66 ± 1.29 mg. MPMO was synthesized from MC that reacted with -chloroperbenzoic acid and, after separation and purification, was identified by H and C NMR and GC-MS. The antioxidant activity was investigated by DPPH, cooxidation -carotene/linoleic acid, and thiobarbituric acid assays. With the use of colorimetric determination, the antilipase effect on the pancreatic lipase was tested, while the molecular interaction profiles were evaluated by docking molecular study. MC (IC = 312.50 ± 2.28 g/mL) and MPMO (IC = 8.29 ± 0.80 g/mL) inhibited the DPPH free radical. The inhibition of lipid peroxidation (%) was 73.08 ± 4.79 and 36.16 ± 4.11 to MC and MPMO, respectively. Pharmacological potential of the ethanol extract from P. rigida (EEPR) and two quercetin derivatives were investigated. Using the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) assay, EEPR was analyzed. Phenolic contents (total phenolic and flavonoids) were quantified by spectrophotometric methods. 2,2-diphenyl-1-pycrilhydrazil (DPPH), iron reducing power and β-carotene/linoleic acid bleaching tests were applied to estimate the antoxidant capacity of EEPR. Nociception (acetic acidinduced writhing, formalin and hot plate) and inflammation (carrageenan-induced paw edema and pleurisy) assays were performed. Molecular docking was used to measure the interactions' profiles of ligands (rutin and quercetin) and cyclooxigenases (COX-1 and COX-2). HPLC analysis identified rutin and quercetin derivatives. Expressive levels of total phenolic and flavonoids and a promising antioxidant effect were measured. EEPR, rutin and quercetin reduced the abdominal contortions. EEPR was effective against both phases of formalin, while rutin and quercetin inhibited the second phase. The latency time on hot plate significantly increased after treatment with EEPR. Inflammatory parameters (paw edema, exudate volume and leukocyte infiltrate) were diminished by EEPR, rutin and quercetin. The molecular docking showed that rutin and quercetin are capable of complexing with COX-1 and COX-2 favorably through physical-chemical interactions. The results suggest that EEPR showed a relevant pharmacological potential, which may be related to action of rutin and quercetin derivatives.

O presente estudo investigou as atividades antinociceptiva e antiedematogênica do extrato etanóli... more O presente estudo investigou as atividades antinociceptiva e antiedematogênica do extrato etanólico das folhas de J. princeps através dos testes de contorções abdominais, formalina, placa quente e edema de pata induzido por carragenina. O extrato etanólico reduziu (p < 0,05) as contorções abdominais (100 mg/kg = 55,75±1,29 e 200 mg/kg = 47,75±1,35) quando comparado ao grupo controle (67,25±1,51). Ambas as fases do teste de formalina foram inibidas (p < 0,05): 1ª fase (50 mg/kg = 79,50±1,12; 100 mg/kg = 69,37±1,03 e 200 mg/kg = 56,75±1,95) e 2ª fase (50 mg/kg = 86,50±1,22; 100 mg/kg = 69,62±1,66 e 200 mg/kg = 49,37±1,50). RESUMO: Ageratum fastigiatum (Gardn.) R. M. King et H. Rob. (Asteraceae), conhecido como "matapas... more RESUMO: Ageratum fastigiatum (Gardn.) R. M. King et H. Rob. (Asteraceae), conhecido como "matapasto", é uma planta usada na medicina popular como cicatrizante e antimicrobiano. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar caracterização morfoanatômica da folha, dos ramos e da raiz de A. fastigiatum. Secções transversais e paradérmicas, coradas com safranina/azul de astra e azul de toluidina foram analisadas ao microscópio. As folhas são alternas ou fasciculadas; a infl orescência é constituída de capítulos; as fl ores com corola lilás; ausência de pápus. A raiz apresenta crescimento secundário na zona de ramifi cação com estruturas secretoras. O caule possui epiderme uniestratifi cada, estômatos, tricomas tectores simples e tricomas glandulares capitados. O pecíolo exibe contorno côncavo-convexo e a epiderme é unisseriada. A lâmina foliar é anfi estomática e o mesófi lo dorsiventral. A epiderme possui células de contorno sinuoso e os estômatos são do tipo anomocítico. Os caracteres morfoanatômicos permitiram estabelecer parâmetros para identifi cação do A. fastigiatum.

Análises da qualidade de cinco matérias-primas de ruibarbo foram realizadas a fim de detectar adulterações. As reações para antraquinonas e taninos foram positivas. Os constituintes rapônticos foram observados na amostra de Rheum palmatum (2). As medidas de cinzas totais para Rheum palmatum (2) e Ferraria cathartica estão acima do esperado. Conforme resultados, as amostras de Rheum palmatum (2) e Ferraria cathartica devem estar adulteradas.
