Individuals are members of different groups and gender, which highly influences values and self-concepts. This is coupled with the fact that Nigeria is a patriarchal country where males hold dominant power dominate in political leadership roles, authority, privileges and control of the property, thereby creating a glass ceiling for women in the workplace. The sample of the study consists of (40) firms available on the AFM’s website. They represent 71.4% of the Jordanian industrial firms, during the period (2006-2015). Regression is used to test the study’s hypotheses. Tobin’s Q and operational efficiency indicators are used to measure financial performance (Gross profit and the operating expenses). The study reveals that there is a statistically significant impact of financial performance on the firms’ values. The study recommends that the firms’ management, stakeholders and investors should concern with using appropriate indicators to analyze financial performance that are developed by the researchers such as the operating efficiency indicators, in addition to TQ index. This is because measuring performance is important for forecasting firm’s value, a...

This study was prompted by reports of high labour turnover in this sector of the economy (especially in the guesthouses), because of reduction in the satisfaction of the workforce. Cross-sectional research design which is quantitative in nature, was the methodology adopted for this study to assess the trends of relationships between the constructs. Questionnaire was used as the measuring instrument, and reliability and validity test for the instrument were established using cronbach alpha, for all the variables ranging between 71% and 89%. The study population comprises 410 employees in the six selected functioning guesthouses, which also represents the study sample. Total enumeration sampling technique was adopted. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software package (version 22) was used for the analysis of the data. The field dataset is available to the public for more rigorous, extensive, critical and extended analysis.

This is due to the increase in the number of Universities around the world. As such, their engagement has been reported to be in a steadying decline as academics’ mobility increases. This study examines remuneration as a determinant of Job-hopping intention and academics’ teaching engagement of selected universities in Southwest, Nigeria. In assessing the subject matter, a survey research design was adopted. Six hundred and twenty (620) respondents were surveyed across the selected universities in Southwest Nigeria using a five-point Likert scale method. Stratified and simple random sampling techniques were used to select the respondents for this study. Five hundred and forty-five (545) copies of the questionnaire reflecting (87.9%) response rate were returned and used for this analysis. The Structural Equation Model (PLS) was used to measure the perceived influence of remuneration on academics...

Pen and paper questionnaire was used for gathering quantitative data among 312 frontline employees working in the selected 5-star hotels in Nigeria. Descriptive statistics, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) and Path analysis were used to establish the mean, standard deviation, measuring instrument reliability, convergent, divergent and test of hypotheses respectively. The outcomes showed significant role of these retention strategies on employees’ behavioural outcomes. This implies that, management should show consistent support for the career d...

The health sector is a unique sector with peculiar work environment and developmental expectations from workers of different categories. Experts indicate that the Nigeria health sector budget is not impressive as it has never moved closer to World Health Organization template of 15% of the annual budget allocated to the health sector. Arising from this gross underfunding, the health sector has become weak while infrastructure and logistic supports seem to be obsolete with defective career initiative programmes. Hence, the present study assessed a competence model for measuring career development and growth of the health sector in Nigeria. The descriptive research design was adopted using stratified-random sampling technique with a mixed method (specifically, sequential explanatory method) approach for gathering data from the selected t...

Researchers from different climes have advocated for adequate retention strategies such as career growth opportunities, for overcoming the alarming rate of employees’ turnover in hotel organisations. However, there is paucity of empirical study on career growth opportunities and employees’ turnover intention. To fill this gap, quantitative data were gathered with 327 copies of questionnaire, administered to the frontline employees working in twenty-two 5-star hotels in Nigeria. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to test the hypotheses, with descriptive statistics, path analysis, maximum likelihood estimates and goodness of fit indices. The results revealed that all the parameters for career growth opportunities used in this study, inversely interact with turnover intention among the respondents. The findings indicate that organisations should pay adequate attention...

Given this, the study investigated the comfortability of the administrative officers working with inadequate fringe benefits. It also investigated factors that make administrative officers prone to voluntary turnover and gender composition of the affected personnel. The questionnaire was used to collect information from respondents (N=231). Drawing from data retrieved from records, the study came out with 14 fringe benefits accrued to the administrative staff and 14 fringe benefits not accrued to them. Examination of the result reveals that a majority (86.6%) of the respondents were not comfortable working without adequate fringe benefits as against 7.8% who were comfortable. The Chi-Square statistical instrument was used to test the only hypothesis formulated. The p-value was observed to be statistically significant at p =.000 < .01 (1% level of significance) for the variable responses. Therefore, the alternate hypothesis was accepted. The study also revealed 8 factors that make the administrative staff prone to voluntary turnover. Lastly, data retrieved from descriptive background showed that male administrative officers were more involved in voluntary turnover than their female counterparts.

This study was designed to examine interaction among the transformational style of leadership and job satisfaction, life satisfaction and turnover intention of employees. A total of 324 questionnaires were administered to the employees of six functioning universities' guesthouses in SouthWest , Nigeria. Structural Equation Modeling was used for assessing the fit of the model. Findings indicated that idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration improved job satisfaction, and inversely affected turnover intention. In addition, life satisfaction was enhanced by idealized influence and individualized consideration, while inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulation had no positive effect on life satisfaction. Life satisfaction was positively associated with job satisfaction, and negatively associated with turnover intention. Recommendations were made for the hospitality organizations to embrace transformational leadership style to improve employees' work attitudes and behaviors. The managerial implications, study limitation and suggestion for further study were also discussed.
