In this study, a group is defined as a group of students who were given a responsibility to execute an assignment in one of the basic statistics courses, Statictics II, which is a compulsory subject at School of Mathematical Sciences, FST. The objective of this study are to investigate the tamwork effectiveness in improving the quality of teaching and learning Statistics II course and to investigate the students opinion on teamwork approach. Questionnaire is used as the data collection instrument in this study and students' perception towards teamwork culture are measured by requiring them to involve in a group project and work as a team. Students' opinion on the advantages of teamwork activities in improving their learning are also solicited. Lastly, a comparative analysis is carried out on the students' performance in Statistics II course. .

Thus, a study aims to investigate students' perceptions towards the usage of the system in teaching and learning activities through a survey which was conducted in semester II of session 2009/2010. The target group was students who undertook courses at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. A questionnaire consisted of students' levels of importance and satisfaction towards components provided by the e-Learning system was developed. Based on the findings, the service gap in e-learning system, problems encountered by the students and their recommendation to improve the system were identified. This study shows that students' main purpose in using SPIN is to obtain extra materials.

The study found that the students agreed that the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English can improve their English proficiency. The results showed that teaching Science and Mathematics in English is capable of being a driven force in mastering basic English language and communication, and also in improving the explanation of the concept of Science and Mathematics in English.

Lecturer's roles to teach and supervise should be supported by a strong curriculum and education program which are current and relevant. Lecturers are demanded to maintain the process of well learning in an effort to improve the quality of education. Teaching is an ongoing process which needs to be enhanced through research and knowledge development. Thus, lecturers should take into account any changes in educational policy and ensure the quality of teaching and learning are not affected. From 2003, the government has implemented changes in teaching Mathematics and Science from the Malay language to English (PPSMI). This has an impact on teaching and learning in Higher Education Institutions, including UKM. This study aims to review the transformation of teaching and learning Mathematics in English based on student's perception. It is also to evaluate whether PPSMI can boost students' mastery of knowledge. From the results, students are generally satisfied with the teaching and learning conducted in English at the School of Mathematical Sciences, UKM.

This paper discussed the core values of leadership and its indicators based on the Value-Based To... more This paper discussed the core values of leadership and its indicators based on the Value-Based Total Performance Excellence Model (VBTPEM) in the context of Institution of Higher Learning (IHL) i.e. the university. The pilot study was conducted at the selected university and produced high reliability index of Cronbach's alpha (α = 0.866). Multivariate technique i.e. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was deployed for the analysis and resulted the GFI = 0.966, CFI = 0.991, and TLI = 0.980 while RMSEA is 0.067 with p = 0.07 and the data fit the model of the single-order measurement of leadership values model. In conclusion, the instrument for measuring the leadership values is suitable to be administered as it was tailored to needs and applicability at the Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) in Malaysia.

This study employed a structured framework to gauge the innovation capabilities of the Malaysian large companies. This framework is significant in such a way that it clearly distinguished the innovation factors, innovation process, innovation output and innovation outcome of the company. Next, the PLS-SEM was used to validate the innovation capabilities framework and later used to examine the hypothesized relationships that linked all the innovation capabilities constructs with the company performance constructs. A total of 124 responses from the managers were received but only 98 valid responses were used to validate the structural model of this study. Innovation is among the most frequently used word in the business world today. While many busines... more Innovation is among the most frequently used word in the business world today. While many businessman and executives agree that innovation is needed to sustain their long term business success, many struggle to understand the concept of innovation. This study aims to measure the understanding level of innovation among the Malaysian executives using a survey questionnaire. Questions regarding innovation were posted to the respondents and they were requested to answer either it was True or False. Each respondent was given scores for their correct answers. The score of the right answers were then categorized into low, moderate and high understanding level. Results of the survey revealed that the understanding level of innovation among the Malaysian Executives is still at moderate level thus leading to the failure of many initiatives introduced by the organization or the government.

ABSTRACT This study aims to identify the determinants of technological innovation capability of M... more ABSTRACT This study aims to identify the determinants of technological innovation capability of Malaysian-owned companies in the resources-based manufacturing, to identify the relationship between technological innovation capability (TIC) and technological innovation performance (TIP) for the resource-based manufacturing. Furthermore, this study also aims to identify innovation capability factors that need more emphasis and improvements from the respective authority. The scope of the study covers four industries which are petrochemical industries, pharmaceutical industries, palm oil-based industries and food processing industries which are located in the state of Selangor. Descriptive analysis, correlation analysis and performance capability analysis were used in this study. It was found that, technological innovation capabilities (TIC) for companies in the resource-based manufacturing are moderate. Factors such as policies capability, human resources capability and facilities capability have a positive relationship with the performance of technological innovation (TIP). These findings will help the government in making decisions and better implementation of policies to strengthen the competitiveness of the company, particularly in resource-based manufacturing.

The policy change of teaching Mathematics and Science from Malay to English language, which start... more The policy change of teaching Mathematics and Science from Malay to English language, which started in 2003 in schools, has given an impact to the teaching and learning process in Public Higher Learning Institutions, including Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Consequently, UKM administrators have directed all faculties offering Mathematics and Science courses to follow the change starting with the first year courses. It is suggested that 30% of the courses is to be conducted in English while 50% and 70% of the courses offered in the following second and third year, respectively would be conducted in English. This study aims at gauging the readiness of lecturers from the School of Mathematical Sciences (PPSM) to conduct courses in English from the perception of students. Questionnaires are distributed to first year students from the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and also from the Faculty of Education (FPEND) for the academic session of 2009/2010. From the results of the study, it is found that the students are generally satisfied with the teaching and learning conducted in English at the School of Mathematical Sciences.

Among the information that can be used to achieve this aim are students' views and feedbacks. A survey was conducted to gather views of students from the Faculty of Education (FPEND) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST). Statistical analysis was performed on the results of the survey. Our findings show that students from these two faculties tend to have a positive view towards PPSMI in UKM. However, given choices, they are more likely to prefer teaching and learning Science and Mathematics in Malay language, and they believed that the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics is more effective in Malay medium.

Malay language, the national language of Malaysia has been the medium of instruction for Science ... more Malay language, the national language of Malaysia has been the medium of instruction for Science and Mathematics for the past four and a half decades in Malaysia. The government however changed the medium of instruction of these subjects to English in January 2003. The "Teaching and Learning of Science and Mathematics in English" (PPSMI) policy was implemented in all primary and secondary schools. It aims to improve the English language proficiency among students as well as the learning and achievement level in science and mathematics. This paper presents findings of the study on students' inclination towards English language as medium of instruction in teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics in Higher Learning Institutions in Malaysia. The respondents were 291 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and Faculty of Education (FPEND) of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). A questionnaire pertaining to students' inclination was used as research instrument. Using descriptive statistics, ANOVA and t-test, the study found that undergraduate students of FST and FPEND had an inclination towards English as medium of instruction in the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics. Using the Post-Hoc test, it is found that Indian students and students from other races than Malay and Chinese have greater inclination towards English as medium of instruction in teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics in UKM for both faculties. However, FST students who studied in Mandarin and Tamil at pre-university level (STPM) had higher inclination compared to those who used Malay language or even English.

UKM's mission to defend the sovereignty of the Malay language and internationalise knowledge moul... more UKM's mission to defend the sovereignty of the Malay language and internationalise knowledge moulded on a strong sense of the national culture, has boosted the Malay language as the language of knowledge in its teaching and learning. Nevertheless, the implementation of PPSMI in 2003 has impacted the choice of medium language in science and mathematics courses at UKM. The purpose of this research is to review students' preferences and perspectives on the transformation the language of knowledge. A survey has been conducted on 441 students from four faculties which offer courses related to science and mathematics. Descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation and odds-ratio are performed for analyses. The findings of the study showed that, in general, students tended to use English as the language of knowledge in the teaching and learning of science and mathematics at UKM. However, the preference level is the lowest for students from Faculty of Education.

Kumpulan pelajar yang terpilih adalah terdiri daripada kelompok pelajar yang pernah mendapat pengalaman bekerja di industri dan juga mereka yang telah menjalani latihan industri yang diwajibkan oleh institusi masing-masing. Persepsi pelajar adalah merangkumi pelbagai aspek seperti persepsi dari sudut teknikal, Persepsi umum, tahap kepentingan dan kepuasan dalam pembelajaran bidang kejuruteraan serta penilaian keseluruhan terhadap sistem pengajaran dan pembelajaran yang diikuti. Keputusan yang diperoleh direkodkan dan dianalisis menggunakan perisian SPSS dan Excel. Secara keseluruhan, tahap kepuasan pelajar adalah masih sederhana dalam aspek pembelajaran bidang kejuruteraan di IPT. Walau bagaimanapun, min tahap kepuasan pelajar yang tinggi terhadap pengalaman pensyarah tidak memadai dalam memuaskan hati pelajar dari segi perlaksanaan kuliah dan kelas praktikal. Oleh itu, beberapa aspek lain seperti infrastruktur diselenggara dengan baik, maklumat komputer yang lengkap dan mesra pengguna serta peralatan makmal dan bengkel yang lengkap juga harus diambil kira dalam proses penambahbaikan program-program yang ditawarkan.
