This article describes and analyses the construction process of a suspension bridge built on the ... more This article describes and analyses the construction process of a suspension bridge built on the Chinchiná River (Colombia) in 1986, which is characterised by having only one tower, shaped like a tuning fork, located at the midpoint of span. The designer, an Italian engineer resident in Colombia, Doménico Parma, was also the forefront of the construction process, in which he introduced innovations that were learned and replicated by other Colombian engineers. Special atention is paid to the construction equipment that Parma himself designed and assembled during the construction of the bridge.

Este artículo describe y analiza la manera en que el ingeniero Doménico Parma desarrolló el proce... more Este artículo describe y analiza la manera en que el ingeniero Doménico Parma desarrolló el proceso de diseño del puente suspendido sobre el río Chinchiná (Colombia), caracterizado por tener un mástil único y vertical, con forma de diapasón, situado en el punto medio del tablero vehicular que soporta. A partir del reconocimiento de las diferentes alternativas estudiadas previamente por Parma, se demuestra la manera en que la solución finalmente adoptada logra conciliar aspectos de naturaleza mecánica con la forma de la estructura.

The tradition of ceramic facades in Bogota dates back to more than a century ago. However, this t... more The tradition of ceramic facades in Bogota dates back to more than a century ago. However, this tradition has been characterised by keeping a conventional construction approach, without any considerable evolution. This paper focuses on significant turning points in Bogota’s tradition that have led to improvements in the construction environment, leading to possible paths for innovation with new proposals for ceramic facades. The central turning-point cases discussed are: Torres del Parque, the North Tower-Hilton International Hotel, brick facades for buildings that emerged after the Colombian Earthquake-resistant Building Standard (NSR-98), and the extension of the Santa Fe Foundation building. Through a detailed focus on these four cases in terms of their technological and morphological solutions, this paper aims to yield innovation opportunities for developing ceramic facade systems within an earthquake prone region.
