Job Satisfaction and Organisational Commitment Among Librarians: A Case Study

It adopted a descriptive survey design. The study consisted of thirty one (31) librarians. The study adopted a random sampling method to generate data through the use of questionnaires. The study found out that a high level of job satisfaction among librarians with a combined response of 72%. Co-worker (94%) and Work/Job (85%) were two factors that determined job satisfaction for librarians. It also found a satisfactory level of organizational commitment among librarian with a combined response of 55%. The only significant characteristics of organizational commitment among librarians is affective commitment (83%), with continuance commitment characteristic (29%) and normative commitment characteristics (44%). The study concluded that there is statistically significant relationship between job satisfaction and organizational commitment among librarians.

The study was conducted on with 300 level undergraduate part-time students in department of Local... more The study was conducted on with 300 level undergraduate part-time students in department of Local Government Management in the 2010/2011 session. The study adopted a random survey method in the distribution of questionnaire. 50 questionnaires were distributed but thirty nine (78%) was retrieved and analyzed. The study found that 24 respondents (61.53%) are more aware of the library outside library sources and 33 respondents (84.61%) do not participate in library orientation for students. The study recommends that library orientation be made a criterion for admission and actual visit to the library be a part of the course on use of the library for part-time students.

The study adopted a descriptive survey method through random sampling of respondents. The respondents were sampled during the 2010 ministers Conference of The Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso. A total of 600 questionnaires were distributed and 520 received. The study revealed that, Baptist churches pastors use ICT for sermon preparation, worship and running of teaching materials during service. Findings also showed that, educational background played a great factor in the use of ICT by the pastors themselves and in their churches. Some of the challenges faced by Baptist pastors in the use of ICT principally are lack of ICT education, personnel and finance. The study traced the history of library association, its stated objectives, the need to join a professional library association, benefits derivable for an association, characteristic of professional library associations and its role in facilitating access to information in Africa. Some of these roles include but not limited to: providing opportunity for librarians to meet, share experiences, learn from each other, develop local library infrastructure and defend the principle of freedom of information. The study however critiqued the professional associations for not being run in professional manners in Africa and lacking cutting technology. It recommended flexibility in running the associations and better funding.

The purpose of the study was to determine the extent to which architectural library designs effective library services. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was made up of 80 librarians in seven university libraries in Edo State, Nigeria. Data was collected through questionnaire and analyzed with the use of percentages. Findings reveal that librarians in university libraries in Edo State, Nigeria observed that their library architecture play the role of a learning centre with 67%. The libraries also fit into new information communication technology (26%) and a place of social capital (23%). This study examined the extent to which the use of automated electronic information services by s... more This study examined the extent to which the use of automated electronic information services by students has influenced the academic performance of students in three tertiary institutions in Nigeria: University of Ibadan, Covenant University, Sango Ota and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. One thousand and five hundred copies of questionnaire were administered to the users at the three universities. The results revealed that having pre university computer literacy did not account for better academic performance; and students who made use of automated library serves were better exposed to academic materials and performed academically better than those who did not make use of the services of tan automated library. The aim of the research was to explore if dreams have meanings attached to them by ethnic nationalities which in turn has become a library of indigenous knowledge. To this, several of the respondents amongst all tribal nationalities do agree that dreams have particularly meanings attached to them by their people based on their culture. This paper examined the role of the library and librarians in promoting national security in Nige... more This paper examined the role of the library and librarians in promoting national security in Nigeria. The objective of the paper was to show that the library and librarians can contribute effectively in the fight against terrorism through effective propaganda; collection and dissemination of information; mobilizing the citizens through civic education and bridging of ideological and religious divides. The paper however stressed that national security is an all embracing term that deals with the protection of the interest of a nation. It is in this regard that the library has a social responsibility in national security. It recommended more government funding to achieve this task and reorganization of training curriculum of future librarians to include national security.
