The goal of weight reduction surgery is not only to decrease excess weight, but also to improve obesity related comorbidities and quality of life (QoL). To evaluate the impact of LSG on patient quality of life, weight loss, and comorbidities associated with morbid obesity according to the updated BAROS criteria. Eleven hundred thirty-eight adult patients were undergone to LSG by our bariatric surgery team between January 2013 and January 2016. A questionnaire (The Bariatric Analysis and Reporting Outcome System - BAROS) was published on social media. The data on postoperative complications were collected from hospital database. Number of respondants was 562 (49.4%). Six of 1138 patients(0.5%) had leakage. All patients who had leakage were respondants. The overall complication rate was 7.7%. After a mean period of 7.4±5.3 months(1-30), mean excess weight loss was 71.3±27.1%...

We describe the technique used in 7 patients with average of 76 years and associated conditions who presented complete RP with severe anal incontinence. Surgery was performed between 1991 and 2000, with an average follow-up of 28 months. There was fall morbidity without mortality associated to the procedure. Continence was recovered within 30 days of the postoperative period. There was 1 recurrence (sigmoidocele). This technique solves the RP and is a safe procedure for these patients. It solves the anal incontinence and the recurrence rate is acceptable.
Metabolic Surgery Comparing Sleeve Gastrectomy with Jejunal Bypass and Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass in Type 2 Diabetic Patients After 3 Years
Obesity surgery, 2018

In this study, we compared the efficacy and safety of SGJB versus RYGB in terms of T2D remission up to 3 years postoperatively. A retrospective cohort study of two groups of patients with T2D who underwent SGJB or RYGB. All patients were matched by age, presurgical body mass index (BMI), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and diabetes duration. Complete remission was defined as HbA1c of < 6%, fasting plasma glucose (FPG) of < 100 mg/dL, and no antidiabetic drugs. In total, 57 and 55 patients in the SGJB and RYGB groups, respectively, met the inclusion criteria. The diabetes remission rate was similar between the SGJB and RYGB groups at 1 year postoperatively (69.2 vs. 64.7%) and 3 years postoperatively (56.1 vs. 58.8%). There were no significant differences in HbA1c or FPG at 1 or 3 years between the two...
