In the past eight months since the world discovered about COVID-19, we learned a lot about server acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV-2) and perhaps there is much more to discover and understand about the virus. With the current understanding of the disease, we assume it will remain in an active state of transmission and progression among the community for a long time. Thus, it is advisable to adopt the disease’s prevention protocol in our daily and work routine. During this pandemic patient requiring dental treatment cannot be neglected and the role of dental imaging is crucial in delivering treatment. Hence, this article attempts to provide an evidence-based compilation about the mode of transmission and clinical features of COVID-19. It also throws light on the potential source of disease transmission in the dental radiology setting. In addition, it suggests...

To this end, it investigated the synergistic effect of incorporating zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles into nanosilica containing epoxy formulations. The mechanical properties of the epoxy coating formulations were improved by modifying the surfaces of the silica nanoparticles (5 wt.%) with 3-glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane, which ensured their dispersal through the material. Next, the ZnO nanoparticles (1, 2, or 3 wt.%) were incorporated to improve the corrosion performance of the formulations. The anticorrosive properties of the coatings were examined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of coated mild steel specimens immersed in 3.5% NaCl solution over different time intervals (1 h to 30 days). Incorporation of the ZnO nanoparticles and the nanosilica into the coating formulation improved the corrosion resistance of the epoxy coating even after long-term exposure ...

Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was used to analyze the dispersion of nanoparticles in the final coating samples, and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) was used to confirm the presence of nanoparticles. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was employed to measure the thermal resistance of the prepared coatings. Conventional techniques were used to measure the impact and scratch resistance. For nanomechanical testing, nanoindentation was performed using a Berkovich-type indenter. Using a taber abraser, the abrasion properties of the coatings were measured. The FE-SEM images indicated good dispersion of the nanoparticles at all three different loading levels. The scratch, impact, and hardness of coatings improved with the addition of the SNPs. Nanomechanical proper...

This is a simple and mild protocol to synthesize novel molecules by using readily available reagents and substrates. Feasibility of the reaction has been rationalized by density functional theory calculations. Moreover, these compounds are potent growth inhibitors of colon, central nervous system, melanoma, ovarian, and renal cancer cell lines with 50% growth inhibition values as low as 1.04 μM.

The synergism effect of Ag and ZnO nanoparticles on the mechanical and corrosion resistance properties was reported. The curing agent 2,4,6-tris (dimethylaminomethyl) phenol (ARADUR 3282-BD) was used under optimized stoichiometry values. The nanoparticles ratio in different wt.% were first dispersed in solvent by the sonication process and then added to epoxy/PPy composition. All the coated steel panels were cured at room temperature in a controlled dust free environment for 7 days in order to obtain a hard and intact coating. The dispersion of nano-size ZnO and Ag pigments was investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and its composition through an energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) technique. Glucose level was significantly decreased in TQ alone treated group, whereas no significant change was recorded when TQ was combined with fluoxetine. Administration of TQ alone and combination of TQ and fluoxetine significantly decreased immobility time, increased latency to immobility and increased locomotor activity. Treatment with TQ alone significantly decreased level of TBARS, increased GSH and restored the activities of antioxidant enzymes (GPx, GR & CAT). However, TQ and fluoxetine combination reduced TBARS level, increased GSH content but no change in the antioxidant enzymes activities. Inflammatory markers (IL-1β, IL-6 & TNF-α) levels were significantly reduced after the administration of TQ alone and TQ + fluoxetine. The study suggests that combination of TQ and fluoxetine can be used to control depression in type-2 diabetes mel...

The ideas of the dynamic balance of opposites i.e. yin and yang duality, the supernatural force (the Tao) relating to the gradual development of events through a process of formulation, and thereby, acceptance of the inevitability of change are taken under consideration. In Chinese tradition, all forms of change are regarded as expressions of the interaction of two auxiliary forces (controlled by the Tao), the yin and the yang, between which equilibrium and harmony are assumed, as well as conflict and opposition. The yin-yang principles are regarded as the two major elements of Chinese cosmology: yin, being the female

Analysis is based on community food assessments conducted in 14 Northern Manitoba communities and included a food security survey, price survey, and interviews. The lack of community control over development in First Nation and other Northern remote and rural communities in Northern Manitoba is found to undermine both food sovereignty and sustainable livelihoods, while creating high levels of food insecurity. According to logit models, sharing country foods increases food sovereignty and sustainable livelihoods, and has a stronger relationship to food security than either road access to retail stores in urban centres or increased competition between stores. The model predicts that rates of food insecurity for a community with a country foods program and with access to public transit ...

The mode-mode couplings affect the vibrational frequencies and intensities. The coupling integrals between pairs of normal modes have been obtained on the basis of quartic force field (2MR-QFF) approximation. The overtone and combination bands are also assigned in the FTIR spectrum with the help of anharmonic calculation at VPT2 method. A statistical analysis of deviations shows that estimated anharmonic frequencies are closer to the experiment over harmonic approximation. Furthermore, the anharmonic correction has also been carried out for the dimeric structure of 2AP. The fundamental vibration bands have been assigned on the basis of potential energy distribution (PED) and visual look over the animated modes. Othe...

Structure-activity relationship studies demonstrate that the introduction of p-N, N-dialkyl/diaryl, and o-methoxy groups into cyanocinnamic acid has maximal MCT1 inhibitory activity. Systemic toxicity studies in healthy ICR mice with few potent MCT1 inhibitors indicate normal body weight gains in treated animals. In vivo tumor growth inhibition studies in colorectal adenocarcinoma (WiDr cell line) in nude mice xenograft models establish that compound 27 exhibits single agent activity in inhibiting the tumor growth.

Due to recent human activity, they are facing a changing environment and reduction in natural population size. For effective conservation and molecular ecological studies, we therefore isolated and characterized microsatellite loci for these frogs. We obtained genomic data using an Ion Torrent PGM sequencer and designed 54 primer sets for candidate loci. By screening for polymorphic loci in individuals of H. tigerinus and its congeneric species, we isolated 27 loci as highly polymorphic microsatellite loci. Eight of these loci were commonly applicable for all species except H. chinensis. Within two populations of H. tigerinus, the total number of alleles per locus and expected heterozygosity ranged from 2 to 18 and 0.271 to 0.938, respectively. No significant linkage disequilibrium was observed across all loci, and five showed a significant devi...

Kalijira and Chinigura were assayed for their activity on the growth and initiation of crown-gall tumors on potato disks. Three Agrobacterium tumefaciens (A. tumefaciens) strain AtSl0105, AtTa0112, and AtAc0114 were used as the tumor forming agent. Collected rice was separated to bran and unpolished grain by different milling processes and made into fine powder before extracting using methanol. Antitumor assay of plant extracts was performed according to standard potato disc bioassay. Disc diffusion assay (Kirby-Bauer Method) was used to screen A. tumefaciens sensitivity test. The results demonstrated a high correlation between the ability of aromatic rice to inhibit the initiation and growth of crown-gall tumors on potato disks. Maximum tumor inhibitions were observed against the strain AtSl0105 by Kalijira bran (73.91%) and Chinigura bran (69.56%). Both unpolished grains showed significan...

Feces were collected per rectum from cattle that were examined for apparent respiratory disease, had a rectal temperature ≥40 • C, and subsequently received antimicrobial treatment. Salmonella were recovered from 918 (73.7%) of 1 245 fecal samples and weekly prevalence estimates ranged from 49 to 100% over the 3-month study. Genotypic and phenotypic characteristics of Salmonella strains in the population were determined. Serogroup E Salmonella were most common (73.3%), followed by C1 (11.0%), C3 (8.6%), and B (1.1%). Predominant serotypes were Orion (46.5%), Anatum (19.8%), Kentucky (8.7%), Montevideo (7.5%), and Senftenberg (4.9%). Few isolates (36/918) were positive for antimicrobial resistance-associated integron gene intI1. Phenotypic susceptibility was associated with isolate intI1 status. Crude re-pull, re-treatment and case fatality risks were higher for cattle that were Salmonella-positive versus-negative at initial treatment, but not statistically different on multivariable analysis. However, case fatality risk was higher for cattle shedding Group B Salmonella than for cattle shedding other serogroups. Lots (groups) with a higher Salmonella prevalence at first treatment had a higher proportion of mortalities occur in a hospital pen, higher overall re-treatment risks, and were more likely to be sampled later in the study. Results indicate a high prevalence of Salmonella in this population of cattle treated for apparent respiratory disease, but that effects associated with clinical outcomes may depend on the Salmonella strain.

The expressed protein, to our surprise, turned out to contain two conformational isomers, one capable of binding an enzymatic inhibitor and the other not, which led to their separation through affinity chromatography. In near- and far-UV circular dichroism and fluorescence spectra, the separated conformers were very similar to each other and to the wild-type enzyme, indicating that they both had native-like conformations. We describe new evidence which supports the notion that the difference between the two conformers is likely to be related to the completeness of the C-terminal knot formation.
