The world is a comprehensive concept of the area of external experience in which all objects appe... more The world is a comprehensive concept of the area of external experience in which all objects appear as external to our consciousness. It is also the area of becoming, transience and disappearance, resp. of birth, life and death (physiology, philosophical physics, cosmology). The being itself, on the contrary, is conceived as what is and does not become (ontology, metaphysics). Philosophy investigates what is object of our cognition, but also what should be the object of our activity (ethics, practical philosophy). Philosophy can try to understand the nature of consciousness and reason from the experience of the world, or it can try to assess the truth or the appearance of the world that we experience from the assessment of our cognitive faculties (epistemology). Both approaches have been confirmed in India and West in different periods. Some examples will be considered and compared.

The paper provides a brief overview of different approaches to language or languages in the histo... more The paper provides a brief overview of different approaches to language or languages in the history of linguistic thought. It briefly outlines the varying relationships between grammar or linguistics and other disciplines, especially philosophy and philology. Thereafter, the question of the relationship between language and cognition is considered from a viewpoint that does not provide an abstract and generalized answer, but rather offers insight into the processes that either reduce the cognitive potential of a language or enable a language to enhance its cognitive potential. Thus, the paper deals with two opposite processes that occur in the history of every language. One is language change, and the other is language development. These two concepts must be strictly differentiated, although they are often confused. Every language changes with time, and this change is usually "deterioration", or-as the Indian grammarians called changes in the Indian languages-"ruin" (apabhraṃśa). In the strictly linguistic sense, it could be termed the "loss of distinctions". This phenomenon reduces the cognitive potential of a particular language: communication becomes more limited or more difficult, and intellectual and cultural contents are impoverished and deteriorated. Language development is the opposite process, whereby a language gradually recovers from such a state of impoverishment thanks to the social, cultural, and intellectual needs of another epoch. Unlike language change, language development enhances the cognitive potential of language. The first process is spontaneous, while the second implies a conscious, systematic effort by the linguistic community. This development is realised through different strategies in languages of different structures, depending largely on the prior history of the respective language. Both processes are illustrated through select examples from European and Indian languages. Govor na oproštaju od Radoslava Katičića U četvrtak 29. kolovoza 2019. na zagrebačkom groblju Mir... more Govor na oproštaju od Radoslava Katičića U četvrtak 29. kolovoza 2019. na zagrebačkom groblju Mirogoj sahranjen je akademik Radoslav Katičić, znanstvenik svjetskoga glasa, dugogodišnji nastavnik Hrvatskih studija, iznimno zaslužan za uspostavu kroatologije kao discipline. Poštovana gospođo Katičić, draga Ioanna, dragi Natko, Dorice i Antice, draga obitelji i rođaci profesora Katičića, poštovani akademici, profesori, predstavnici hrvatske države, vodećih znanstvenih, visokoobrazovnih i kulturnih institucija, predstavnici javnoga života u svim područjima, poštovani kolege, dragi prijatelji i štovatelji profesora Katičića, pozvali su me obitelj mojega poštovanoga profesora s jedne strane, a gospodin rektor Sveučilišta u Zagrebu prof. dr. sc. Damir Boras s druge, da vam se prigodom ovoga oproštaja obratim. Činim to stoga i u ime gospodina rektora i Sveučilišta u Zagrebu i u svoje osobno ime kao prijatelj drage obitelji. Prije nekoliko dana napustio je ovaj svijet i ovo tijelo duh koji je duboko obilježio humanističku znanost i hrvatsku kulturu svojim stvaralaštvom od sredine XX. stoljeća do danas. Gorostas umom, a i velik čovjek, kakva se rijetko sreće. On nije bio samo izuzetan znanstvenik i profesor u zagrebačkoj i hrvatskoj sredini, nego i u bečkoj, europskoj i svjetskoj. I čak je doživio i priznanja koja to pokazuju, što se takvim ljudima ne događa uvijek. Ne samo naše Sveučilište, nego ni Sveučilište u Beču nema mnogo profesora čijim se članstvom diči čak sedam akademija znanosti: hrvatska, austrijska, norveška, bosansko-hercegovačka, kosovska, Academia Europea i Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei u Rimu. No taj sjaj priznanja samo je usputna posljedica veličine i širine njegova duha i djela.

Tagore) odrastao je u atmosferi drustva Brahmo Samaj koje je osnovao Ram Mohan Ray, a koje je poslije vodio otac Rabindranathov Debendranath Thakur. Nobelova nagrada 1913. uvod je u svjetske turneje na kojima Thakur drži predavanja i cita poeziju. U književnosti izvori i uzor su mu bili kavya, bhakti, Chandidas i bauli, a potom i neki svjetski, osobito engleski pjesnici. U filozofiji izvori i poticaji su mu bili s indijske stane upanisadi, samkhya, vedanta, buddhisticka i visnuisticka filozofija, a sa zapadne Darwin, Bergson, Russell, Croce i drugi. Objavio je niz zbiraka filozofski eseja, kao sto su: Dharma, Santiniketan, Sadhana, Personality, Creative Unity, Religion of Man, Man i Crisis in Civilisation. U clanku se prikazuju glavne misli Thakurove u tim zbirkama eseja, njihovi izvori, kontekst i utjecaj.

Jezični sustav i kulturni kontekst u Sintaksi Radoslava Katičića

bilo bi lakše protumačiti i rečenice s lično upotrijebljenim modalnim glagolom trebati u čl. 1034... more bilo bi lakše protumačiti i rečenice s lično upotrijebljenim modalnim glagolom trebati u čl. 1034 (Profesori mi trebaju gledati kroz prste, Volovi bi trebali da riču ono što kola škripe) kod kojih se s impersonalnim glavnim predikatom dogodilo isto što i s impersonalnim predikatima rečenica u čl. 76 (Trenutak se činio povoljan, Opet se život pričinja lijepim) i sl. Uvođenjem u opis toga pravila lakše bi bilo uočiti i razliku koja se na površinskoj razini očituje, i na formalnom planu, i na planu komunikacijske rečenične perspektive, među primjerima u čl. 796 (Neg izvana kroz brvna se vidi/ kako starac u zapećku sidi u odnosu na: On je jedini opazio gospoju O/ivu kako mu prilazi), a također, bilo bi lakše uočiti da isto dubinsko ustrojstvo kao i navedene rečenice imaju i neke iz čl. 526, gdje se tumače kao odnosne (U toj izbi čudno čudo kažu: Bijesno Ture gdje se krstu klanja, A Turčina ako još imade / Gdjegod koga ter se Vlaha boji). Također, bilo bi lakše uočiti da se pojedine rečenice u čl. 257. npr. ove: Oni hoće vidjeti takve jadnike sretnima, Pa makar nju samo zato smatrali vješticom, od drugih navedenih u istome odjeljku razlikuju po svome ustrojstvu. Međutim, uvođenje toga pravila nametnulo bi nužno drukčiji odnos spram objekta i priložne oznake pa i spram subjekta koji se u Sintaksi, u primjerima koji su upravo izloženi, tumače kao prvotni rečenični dijelovi, a ne kao rečenični dijelovi dobiveni odgovarajućom preoblikom. U svojoj se knjizi R. Katičić dosljedno pridržavao onih formalnih kriterija za koje se opredijelio, pa, iako je moguć i drukčiji generativni opis našeg jezika, ni opisu koji nam je u svojoj knjizi predložio R. Katičić ne mogu se osporiti vrijednosti ni u temeljnoj zamisli ni u domašajima pristupa jezičnoj građi. Sintaksa hrvatskoga književnog jezika dobar je nacrt za gramatiku i po tome što, premda je i sam cjelovita ostvarenje, potiče i na dalja razmišljanja o suvremenim teorijska-metodološkim sredstvima i njihovoj primjeni u tumačenju našeg jezika. Ta će knjiga korisno poslužiti, i kao temelj i kao usmjerenje, za dalji rad na suvremenoj, u skladu sa suvremenim sintaktičkim mjerilima postavljenoj gramatici.

Poštovana gospođo Katičić, draga Ioanna, dragi Natko, Dorice i Antice, draga obitelji i rođaci profesora Katičića, poštovani akademici, profesori, predstavnici hrvatske države, vodećih znanstvenih, visokoobrazovnih i kulturnih institucija, predstavnici javnoga života u svim područjima, poštovani kolege, dragi prijatelji i štovatelji profesora Katičića, pozvali su me obitelj mojega poštovanoga profesora s jedne strane, a gospodin rektor Sveučilišta u Zagrebu prof. dr. sc. Uvođenjem u opis toga pravila lakše bi bilo uočiti i razliku koja se na površinskoj razini očituje, i na formalnom planu, i na planu komunikacijske rečenične perspektive, među primjerima u čl. 796 (Neg izvana kroz brvna se vidi/ kako starac u zapećku sidi u odnosu na: On je jedini opazio gospoju O/ivu kako mu prilazi), a također, bilo bi lakše uočiti da isto dubinsko ustrojstvo kao i navedene rečenice imaju i neke iz čl. 526, gdje se tumače kao odnosne (U toj izbi čudno čudo kažu: Bijesno Ture gdje se krstu klanja, A Turčina ako još imade / Gdjegod koga ter se Vlaha boji). Također, bilo bi lakše uočiti da se pojedine rečenice u čl. 257. npr. ove: Oni hoće vidjeti takve jadnike sretnima, Pa makar nju samo zato smatrali vješticom, od drugih navedenih u istome odjeljku razlikuju po svome ustrojstvu. Međutim, uvođenje toga pravila nametnulo bi nužno drukčiji odnos spram objekta i priložne oznake pa i spram subjekta koji se u Sintaksi, u primjerima koji su upravo izloženi, tumače kao prvotni rečenični dijelovi, a ne kao rečenični dijelovi dobiveni odgovarajućom preoblikom. U svojoj se knjizi R. Katičić dosljedno pridržavao onih formalnih kriterija za koje se opredijelio, pa, iako je moguć i drukčiji generativni opis našeg jezika, ni opisu koji nam je u svojoj knjizi predložio R. Katičić ne mogu se osporiti vrijednosti ni u temeljnoj zamisli ni u domašajima pristupa jezičnoj građi. Sintaksa hrvatskoga književnog jezika dobar je nacrt za gramatiku i po tome što, premda je i sam cjelovita ostvarenje, potiče i na dalja razmišljanja o suvremenim teorijska-metodološkim sredstvima i njihovoj primjeni u tumačenju našeg jezika. Ta će knjiga korisno poslužiti, i kao temelj i kao usmjerenje, za dalji rad na suvremenoj, u skladu sa suvremenim sintaktičkim mjerilima postavljenoj gramatici.
