These procedures could be used by designers when (1) it is difficult to find a reasonable trade-off for a controller tuning fulfilling several requirements; and (2) if it is worthwhile to analyse design objectives exchange among design alternatives. Despite the usefulness of such methods for describing trade-offs among design alternatives (tuning proposals) with the so called Pareto front, for some control problems finding a pertinent set of solutions could be a challenge. That is, some control problems are complex in the sense of finding the required trade-off among design objectives. In order to improve the performance of MOOD procedures for such situations, preference handling mechanisms could be used to improve pertinency of solutions in the approximated Pareto front. In this paper an overall MOOD procedure focusing in controller tuning applications using designer's preferences is proposed. In order to validate such procedure, a benchmark control problem is used and reformulated into a multi-objective problem statement, where different preference handling mechanisms in the optimisation process are evaluated and compared. The obtained results validate the overall proposal as a potential tool for industrial controller tuning.

A Poet of Our Own: The Struggle for Os Lusíadas in the Afterlife of Camões

Shortly after the poet's death, two Castilian versions of the poem were published in 1580, the very same year of Philip II's annexation of Portugal and its overseas territories to his newly global monarchy. In 1655, some years after the Portuguese uprising against Spanish rule, the Royalist poet Richard Fanshawe published the first English translation of Os Lusíadas against the backdrop of the increasingly interventionist policies of the British Protectorate regarding the national and imperial conflict between the Iberian kingdoms. By allowing the production, redistribution, and new consumptions of literary capital, translation becomes a specifically imperial textual practice that participates in the international competition for cultural and political hegemony. This article, therefore, seeks to provide the grounds for a geopolitics of imperial cultural struggle around Os Lusíadas in early modern Europe.

In this work, a mathematical model of pH and the frequency-modulated effects of lidocaine has been developed and incorporated into the Luo-Rudy model of the ventricular action potential. We studied the effects of lidocaine on Na+ current, maximum upstroke velocity, and conduction velocity and demonstrated that a decrease of these parameters was dependent on pH, frequency, and concentration. We ...

First, linear local models in some operating points, by applying standard identifications procedures for linear systems in time domain, are obtained. Next, a LPV model with linear fractional dependence (LFR) with respect to measured variables is fitted with the condition of containing all the linear models identified in previous step (differential inclusion). The fit is carried out using nonlinear least squares algorithms. Finally, this identification methodology will then be applied to a nonlinear turbocharged diesel engine.
