The main barrier in working with Scheiddegger-Watson or matrix variate distributions via standard MLE is the normalising constant that always appears with them. We apply Taylor expansion for approximating the corresponding matrix-based normalising constant and then implement our proposed approach for classification on Grassmann manifold. We then evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed method on real world data against the state of the art recent techniques and show that the proposed approach outperforms or good comparable with them.

Malondialdehyde is formed as a result of lipid peroxidation and reacts with thiobarbituric acid to form a pink pigment that has an absorption maximum at 532 nm. Other compounds also react with thiobarbituric acid to form colored species that can interfere with this assay, but little is known about these interfering species. This is the first investigation using LC-MS and MS-MS to study the structures of the pink adduct as well as a common unstable yellow interference compound, which absorbs at 455 nm. Also, the presence of barbituric acid impurities in the thiobarbituric acid reagent was found to produce 1:1:1 thiobarbituric acid/malondialdehyde/barbituric acid and 2:1 barbituric acid/malondialdehyde adducts that absorbed at 513 and 490 nm, respectively, indicating that thiobarbituric acid should be purified before use.

Our main concern is then on the applicability of GACG for computer vision application e.g., classification on arbitrarily high dimensional Grassmannian space. We show by numerical experiments that the implementation of the proposed Grassmannian variate parametric model via MLE using simple Bayesian classifier is directly related to the accurate calculation of normalising constant naturally appearing with them. We verify the validity and performance of our proposed approach on two publicly available databases against the existing state of art techniques, where we observed that the classification accuracy of our proposed approach outperforms significantly.

The practicability of such parametric models on high dimensional data (e.g., via manifold valued data) remained a big hurdle since long i.e., mainly due to the difficult normalising constant naturally appear with them. We applied the method of Saddle Point Approximation (SPA) for calculating the corresponding normalising constant and then tested the validity and performance of the proposed algorithm on two datasets against the state of the art existing techniques and observed that the proposed technique is more suitable for recognition on Grassmann manifolds via a simple Bayesian classifier.

Bichromophoric norbornylogues are of interest as analogues of biological electron transfer systems.

However, audio features are also important in summarization as they characterize the exciting events of a sport, especially when external thing e.g. raining effects the visual feature. The commentator's voice, referee's whistle, and audience-voice are strongly correlated to the exciting events e.g. goal, penalty shootout, red card, etc. in a soccer game. The existing methods using original audio signals could not provide expected summary due to the various noises from the audience such as horn and sound from various musical instruments. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to extract audio features using Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) that can filter out noises. We have conducted a set of experiments on four real soccer videos. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can detect goal events with 96% accuracy which outperforms the existing state-of-the-art method by 42%.

Two solvents with different polarities were used to extract hydrophilic components and hydrophobic components, respectively, the combined analytical data can provide a ''global'' view of metabolites. Based on the evaluation of parallel samples, it was found that this approach provided good repeatability, accurate and reliable profiling data, and is suitable for the metabolomics study of tobacco leaves. In order to find the chemical component differences of tobacco leaves, 56 samples from Zimbabwe and China were analyzed using the developed method. The metabolite data were processed by multivariate statistic technique; an obvious group classification between Zimbabwe and China was observed, 14 significantly changed compounds were found, and 9 of them were identified.

Phenolic compounds were detected with greater sensitivity in the negative ion mode, but results from positive and negative ion modes were complementary with the positive ion mode showing structurally significant fragments. This is demonstrated by the identification of oleuropein and isomers of verbascoside. The structure of the latter were confirmed by retention, mass spectral and nuclear magnetic resonance data. These isomers have not previously been reported in olive.

The Electroencephalogram (EEG) is the most influential technique in detection of epileptic seizures. In recent years, many research works have been devoted to the detection of epileptic seizures based on analysis of EEG signals. Despite remarkable work on seizure detection, there is no generic seizure detection scheme which performs reasonably well for different patients and different brain locations. In this paper we present a generic approach for feature extraction of preictal (pre-stage of seizure onset) and interictal (period between seizures) EEG signals using empirical mode decomposition (EMD) along with discrete cosine transformation (DCT) by exploit temporal correlation for detection of preictal phase of epileptic seizure. Then least square support vector machine is applied on the features for classifications. Results demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of sensitivity, specificity and accuracy to classify preictal and interictal EEG signals to the benchmark dataset extracted from different brain locations of different patients.

Unlike the conventional techniques for multivariate distributions in the existing literature e.g., Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling methods, non-parametric methods, Expectation Maximisation (EM) iterative methods or exact methods, we demonstrate a new way of parametric modelling for classification that is strictly based on normalising constant. The evaluation of normalising constant is based on the matrix-variate Saddle Point Approximation (SPA). The Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) is directly employed on the proposed manifold based Bingham density function via simple Bayesian classifier. For numerical experiments a 3-class classification example is considered by using real world Caltech 101 and DynTex++ database. We have compared our average classification accuracy rate with the baseline results taken from the existing state of the art techniques, and found that our method outperforms or at least best comparable.

This paper addresses this problem using the spatiotemporal appearance technique (STA). Although the STA-based technique can significantly remove rain from video, in some cases it cannot properly retain all the moving object regions. The photometric feature of rain streak was used to solve this issue. In this paper, a new algorithm combining STA and the photometric correlation between rain streak and background is proposed. Rain streak and moving objects were successfully detected and separated by combining both techniques, then fused to obtain well-recovered moving objects with rain-free video. The experimental results reveal that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods for both real and synthetic rain streak.
