I am Zaker Hossin, currently working as a Programme Leader & Lecturer, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Cox's Bazar International University, Bangladesh. I have successfully completed MSc in International Tourism and Hospitality Management from London South Bank University (UK) with distinction (grade of 78% in dissertation). I have also successfully completed BSc (Hons) in International Tourism and Hospitality Management from University of Sunderland (UK) with a class of 2.1. My field of research interest includes: Tourism development in developing countries, Religion and tourism development, Socio-cultural impact of tourism, Community based tourism, Tourism and anthropology, Green Tourism development, Tourism development in Coastal areas, Role of local government in sustainable tourism development, Relationship between host and guest in Islamic Societies, Halal tourism, and Island tourism.
I recently have published numbers of articles in referred journals and am working on various projects related to different fields of tourism development in developing and Muslim societies.

Tourism Development and Socio-cultural Impact in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh: Conflicts or Co: exists?

Tourism is increasingly appeared as an important tool for the community development to many devel... more Tourism is increasingly appeared as an important tool for the community development to many developing countries, though it has impacts. Impacts on host community is huge and somehow it often received less concentration, especially in developing societies where economic benefit only takes the prime priority. The study has reviewed the “Social Exchange Theory” to understand the existing knowledge on socio-cultural impacts of tourism development- followed by a questionnaire survey of 180 local people. Perceptions of the local people revealed that tourism is thriving in Cox’s Bazar with a significant impact on local economy through generating huge employments opportunity, having multiplier effects which lead to a quality of life to local people while the region was previously based on only the profession of fishing. However, this society is not apart from negative consequences as similar as other developing societies due to economic benefits become the only priority where diverse community use the same land. Negative consequences a lot but significant negative impacts include socio-cultural degradation and adaptation of the Westernisation. It is hoped that the current study will provide an insight to tourism literature and as well as to tourism developer and practitioners to comprehend the understanding of the socio-cultural impact of tourism development in a developing society.

The aim of this research is to look into the tourism development in a developing society with a p... more The aim of this research is to look into the tourism development in a developing society with a particular reference to Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh. Initially, this research has reviewed the existing knowledge based on socio-cultural and religious impacts of tourism development-followed by a qualitative method; interview of 15 local people and tourism developers to achieve its aim and objectives. Previously the main profession of this area was fishing, however, tourism development in this area take along a diverse opportunity of employment to local people. Results based on the analysis of the positive findings further include infrastructural development, cultural exchange, and entrepreneurial opportunity which all lead to a quality of life to local people. However, results based on the hierarchical regression also identified some issues that arisen due to tourism development in this region. These unenthusiastic impacts of tourism development include an increase of alcoholic beverages, cultural clash and adaptation of the Western behaviour of freedom of drinking and dressing. The current study provides a further contribution to tourism and hospitality management literature and a useful guideline to tourism developers, policy makers and practitioners to integrate and manage better tourism development in a developing society, particularly in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.

In more and more competitive and changing world, comprehend the understanding of internal and ext... more In more and more competitive and changing world, comprehend the understanding of internal and external environments of an organisation becomes more important than ever before. To have a fruitful and realistic strategic plan, the organisation needs to have an effective internal and external environmental analysis. The aim of this paper was to have a comparative analysis of internal and external environments of the hospitality industry with particular reference to Hyatt Hotel, UK and Hotel The Cox Today, Cox's Bazar Bangladesh. In terms of secondary data, this paper has used a number of tools that are widely used in analysing internal and external environment, these include SWOT analysis, PESTLE analysis and Porter's five forces. In order to gather primary information, this paper has followed by a qualitative method in which analysing of the documentation of these two hotels (both online and printed documents) have been used. The findings of this paper have argued that both hotels have some strength that can be used for business growths, some weaknesses that need to be improved, some opportunities that can be achieved, and some threats that need to be protected. The findings have revealed that Hyatt is a popular brand and well-known hotel in the world. It operates business all over the world with a group of multicultural experienced employees. On the other hand, Hotel The Cox Today, Cox's Bazar is a local popular hotel. However, both hotels need to consider some issues whist developing a strategic plan such as technological changes, competitors, new entrance, bargaining power of the customers, economic situation, environmental issues and legal policies and laws.

To achieve its aim and objectives, initially, this paper reviewed the existing knowledge-followed by a qualitative method of documentation analysis of 8 Islamic banks in performance with 965 branches, 9 conventional banks with 20 branches of Islamic banking facilities and 7 conventional banks with 25 Islamic banking windows are providing Islamic banking services in Bangladesh. Comments are derived from the analysis of the findings of these banks. The findings revealed that Islamic Banking system becomes a popular term of banking to the people of Bangladesh.
