It includes 108 importers of Bangladeshi goods. The sample period extends from 2000 to 2018. Primarily, we employ Pooled Ordinary Least Square (POLS) model, and we utilize Poisson Pseudo Maximum Likelihood (PPML) as an alternative estimation technique to check robustness. The findings from the OLS model indicate that ICT has positive and significant effects on Bangladesh’s bilateral export. The results from PPML also support the findings from the OLS model. Therefore, the results come out to be robust. These findings imply that by reducing trade-related costs e. g., shipping costs, market access costs, and communication and information costs, ICT growth in Bangladesh as well as in its trading partner countries enhances trade flows and therefore has a trade-boosting effect.

Biodiesel is usually produced from vegetable oils or animal fats. When produced from plant oil or woody plant sources, biodiesel can reduce a significant amount of carbon dioxide on a life cycle basis. The objective of this study is to produce biodiesel from a non-conventional woody plant source that is, crude tall oil, which is a dark brown viscous liquid extracted and processed in wood pulping plants. It contains a high percentage of fatty acids. From raw crude tall oil, tall oil fatty acids were separated and were successfully used for the production of biodiesel in this study. Although biodiesel produces lower CO, HC and PM than petroleum diesel fuel, it produces higher oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions in diesel engines. Water emulsifications of diesel-biodiesel blends are investigated in a direct injection (DI) diesel engine in this w...

Despite the enforcement of stringent COVID-19 measures, including nationwide lockdowns, travel bans, tighter curbs on nonessential activities, and social distancing, the country witnessed an accelerated diffusion of coronavirus cases during the national events and festivals in 2020. The present study aims to examine the association between the national events / festivals and the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 by looking at the instantaneous reproduction number, Rt, of the 64 districts in Bangladesh. We further illustrate the COVID-19 diffusion explicitly in Dhaka Division at the first phase of the pandemic. The comprehensive analysis shows an escalation of Rt value in Dhaka and in all industrialized cities during the major events such as, Garments reopening and religious holidays in Bangladesh. Based on the analysis, a set o...

We demonstrate experimental and numerical evidence that, as the feedback level is varied, a stepwise change in the oscillation frequency manifests itself in the output optical intensity. These transitions in the dynamics can either correspond to an abrupt jump between two limit cycles, associated with a subcritical torus bifurcation of a limit cycle, or to a progressive switching mediated by an intermediate quasiperiodic state. Finally, when ramping the feedback level down, hysteresis is observed in the sequence of switching events between the limit cycles. Such devices are of interest for photonic microwave sources for wavelength-division multiplexed radio-over-fiber systems.

This cross-sectional study was conducted among 614 students from five universities in central Bangladesh. Data were collected on demographic information, immunization history, medical and blood transfusion history through the face-to-face interview. Blood samples were collected and screened for anti-HBsAg using ELISA, HBsAg Rapid Test-cassette, and immune chromatographic test. The overall seroprevalence of HBV infection was 5.0%, and vaccination coverage was 19.2% among the participants. Students having a history of surgery (OR 11.004, 95% CI 3.211-37.707), blood transfusion (OR 5.651, 95% CI 0.965-33.068), being married (OR 4.776,, and not being vaccinated (OR 9.825, 95% CI 1.130-85.367) were at higher risk of being infected by HBV. This study showed the endemicity of HBV infection among the Bangladeshi population. Marriage, surgical or blood transfusion history, not being vaccinated were the determinants of HBV infection within the study population. Public health initiatives for preventing HBV infection at the university levels should be envisaged.

The bulk of the existing V2G capacity models is intended for home charging that mainly considers the parameters related to the arriving EV population only. However, a significant EV population is expected to be charged at business premises (e.g., office, university, hospital, shopping mall, etc.) during the daytime. Since the duration of stay is relatively low at business premises compared to home charging, the parameters associated with the departing EV popu lation and willingness to provide V2G service in addition to those related to arriving EV population could play a pivotal role in the V2G capacity. Therefore, this paper proposes a V2G capacity model by incorporating these aspects. The proposed model has been applied and tested on the University of Queensl...

Optoelectronic feedback on a laser diode is demonstrated to generate two distinct modes of pulse-... more Optoelectronic feedback on a laser diode is demonstrated to generate two distinct modes of pulse-train formation depending on the injection current J of the laser. For J close to the threshold current J th , the pulse repetition rate is the inverse of the loop delay. This behavior is attributed to feedback-induced gain-switching. In contrast, for J J th , the repetition rate is observed to be related to the relaxation-oscillation frequency f RO . The potential to generate pulse trains and associated microwave combs may find use in metrology, optical communications, sampling, and spectroscopy.

The model also explored the drivers of electronic Human Resource Management (eHRM) practice in the organizations. The primary data collected by using a pilot survey and closed-ended questionnaire designed on Likert 7-point scale. Simple random sampling was adopted to yield 674 acceptable responses from 165 organizations in Bangladesh. The structural equation modeling results indicate that only six drivers out of nine namely senior executives' attitude, IT skill of HRM professionals, perceived compatibility, senior leadership support, firm culture and competitive pressure are revealed a strong positive effect on eHRM practice. The study revealed a positive and significant relationship between eHRM practice and organizational performance. Moreover, the effect of job satisfaction of HRM professionals is observed to partially mediate on practiceperformance relationship. The practical implication of the outcome of study and the extent of further research are postulates at the conclusion.

This study tested neuro-pharmacological, anti-nociceptive, and antidiarrheal activities by in vivo and in silico experiments for the metabolites extracted (methanol) from the leaves of Cuscuta reflexa (MECR). During the anxiolytic evaluation analyzed by elevated plus maze and hole board tests, MECR (200 and 400 mg/kg) exhibited a significant dose-dependent reduction of anxiety-like behavior in mice. Similarly, mice treated with MECR demonstrated a dose-dependent decrease in the time of immobility in both forced swimming and tail suspension tests. In addition, anti-nociceptive activity was assessed by the chemical-induced (acetic acid and formalin) pain models. In both cases, 400 mg/kg was found to be most effective and significantly (p < 0.001) inhibited acetic acid stimulated writhing and formalin-induced ...

Due the large presence of value-added fatty and resin acids, CTO has a huge valorization potential as a biobased, readily available, non-food, and low-cost biorefinery feedstock. The objective of this work was to present a method for the isolation of high-value linoleic acid (LA), an omega (ω)-6 essential fatty acid, from CTO using a combination of pretreatment, fractionation, and purification techniques. Following the distillation of CTO to separate the tall oil fatty acids (TOFAs) from CTO, LA was isolated and purified from TOFAs by urea complexation (UC) and low-temperature crystallization (LTC) in the temperature range between −7 and −15 °C. The crystallization yield of LA from CTO in that range was 7.8 w/w at 95.2% purity, with 3.8% w/w of ω-6 γ-linolenic acid (GLA) and 1.0% w/w of ω-3 α-linolenic (ALA) present as contaminants. This is the first report on the isolation of LA from CTO. The approa...

The aim of the study was to know the prevalence and diversity of gastrointestinal (GI) helminths in free-ranging Asian house shrew () in Bangladesh. A total of 86 Asian house shrews were captured from forest areas and other habitats of Bangladesh in 2015. Gross examination of the whole GI tract was performed for gross helminth detection, and coproscopy was done for identification of specific eggs or larvae. The overall prevalence of GI helminth was 77.9% (67/86), with six species including nematodes (3), cestodes (2), and trematodes (1). Of the detected helminths, the dominant parasitic group was from the genus spp.(59%), followed by spp.(17%), spp. (10%), spp. (3%), and spp.(3%). The finding shows that the presence of potential zoonotic parasites spp. and spp.) in Asian house shrew is ubiquitous in all types of habitat (forest land, cropland and dwelling) i...

T... more The efficient government finance will increase economic growth and thereby income distribution. This research has been formulated an efficiency theory of production and finance. This research compared the government expenditure patterns into two situations. One, when a government borrows and accordingly allocates resources for productive expenditures for private and public finance. Another situation is that when a government borrows and fixed the resources for productive expenditure for only public finance. A comparative efficiency theory of production and finance are being formulated to test the general equilibrium of production of goods and services. This general equilibrium theory of efficient production of a firm has been made a conclusion that government resource allocation in both for private and public finance is efficient and never creates economic distortion even if these resources are borrowed form domestic sources. These domestic sources might be private commercials banks...

While sophisticated techniques exist, on a discrete basis, for both dependability/fault-tolerance (FT) and real-time (RT), the composite considerations for FT+RT are still evolving. Obviously the different objectives needed for FT and RT make composite optimization hard. In this paper, the proposed Multi Variable Optimization (MVO) process develops integrated FT+RT considerations. We introduce dependability as an initial optimization criteria by confining error propagation probability, i.e., limiting the interactions. Subsequently, quantification of interactions together with RT optimization by minimizing scheduling length is developed. A simulated annealing approach is utilized to find optimized solutions. We provide experimental results for our approach, showing significant design improvements over contemporary analytical initial feasibility solutions.
