
Mauro Minardi
MAURO MINARDI works on Central and North Italian painting from the Trecento to the early Cinquecento. His special areas of research include painting in Emilia Romagna, the Marches and Umbria, and cultural relations between the Veneto and the Central Adriatic region between the late Middle Ages and the early Renaissance. He is also a scholar of Paolo Uccello.
Furthermore, Mauro is interested in the reception of Italian Renaissance Art between the 19th and 20th centuries; and, as a consequence, in the history of connoisseurship and its connections with French and Anglo-American literature.
His methodology and fields of interest include connoisseurship, art patronage, history of collecting, iconography.
Mauro graduated at the Università Cattolica, Milan, then continued his studies at the Universities of Bologna and Florence, where he received his Ph.D. in Art History in 2004. He had also the position of fellow at the Villa I Tatti, The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, Florence, and at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. He taught Medieval Art History for many years at the Università della Basilicata, Matera, and the Università di Bologna - Alma Mater Studiorum. In 2014 and then again in 2018 he obtained the Qualification for teaching as Associate Professor in Art History ('Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale - Professore di II fascia'). From 2021 to 2023 he worked for the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio, Ravenna.
