The sample was composed of 14 students of sixth (6th) and seventh (7th) grade of basic secondary school of the Enrique Olaya Herrera I.E.D. School located in the city of Bogotá D. C., aged between 12 and 14 years (M = 12.86), divided into two groups: Control Group (n = 7) and Experimental Group (n = 7 subjects). The training program designed consisted of 11 sessions: 10 sessions of work with the participants and 1 session of training in parenting guidelines and social skills for parents. In order to evaluate the level of development of social skills in the participants, the Life Skills Test (Díaz et al. 2013) was used before and after the training. The results indicate in the post-test that the empathy skill in the control group shows a statistically significant difference in relation to the same in the experimental group; regarding the assertive communication skills and interpersonal relationships it is evident that they do not present statistically significant differences in the two groups. Regarding the number of annotations in the observer, the experimental group shows a decrease of annotations in at least 87% of the subjects, while the control group shows an increase of annotations in 42.85% of the participants. The study allowed an approach to the process of cognitive development of the child, recognizing how this is mediated by cultural factors that generate response patterns, which allow them to face the harsh context in which they find themselves.
