Once selected a performance evaluation of the material composite formulations energetic properties is required. Tailoring the composite materials for a particular ordnance application requires selecting reactants that seek an optimized combination of economic costs and performance properties (e.g., energy release, temperature, and gas generation). A successful energetic material evaluation must identify reactants offering a good fit with performance requirements and an overall materials selection strategy. To aid energetic material users in making complex reactant selection decisions we introduce a modeling approach that combines the concepts of thermodynamics, economic costs, and goal programming. This study is unique in its application of goal programming in exploring this type of decision situation. A case study is used to illustrate the modeling approach. The results demonstrate the efficacy of the approach for evaluating formulations where performance properties are important.

Unfortunately, these prior studies have not considered a real-world investor's total wealth including nonmarketable assets. In this paper an LGP model is developed for allocating an investor's total wealth. Demonstration of the informational efficiency of the modeling approach in portfolio analysis is also presented.

Contends that these cost models are lacking dynamic cost components inherent in virtually all JIT purchasing plans. Presents a series of inventory purchasing cost models that extend prior methodology by Fazel by including relevant physical distribution cost savings. Additional comparative models are presented to further demonstrate how other relevant costs factors can be included in a comparative EOQ/JIT model. A cost comparison with an existing problem from the literature is used to illustrate the informational efficacy of new models.

Design/methodology/approach – A research model is proposed which describes the impact of SC innovation, supplier cooperation, SC efficiency, and quality management (QM) practices on organisational performance. The proposed research model and hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling based on data collected from 243 hospitals. Findings – The results of the study support that organisational performance is positively associated with constructs of each SC innovation factor. Innovative design of SC has a significant impact on selection of and cooperation with excellent suppliers, improved SC efficiency, and encouragement of QM practices. Research limitations/implications – The data used in this study were collected from relatively large hospitals with more than 100 beds in South Korea. The generalization of the study results may be limited by the size of sample hospitals. Originality/value – This study provides useful planning information in the healthcare industry. The results suggest successful implementation of SC management is attained through continuous SC innovation with supplier cooperation, which in turn improves organisational performance.

A goal programming model incorporating elements of critical path method and concurrent engineering is proposed as a means to augment the planning of value analysis projects. The modeling approach builds and extends prior goal programming research by uniquely incorporating both timing and cost information to ease modeling complexity and reveal scheduling resource tradeoffs. An illustrative example is presented to demonstrate the modeling approach informational efficacy.

Alignment of strategies is presumed to be a positive contributor to business performance just as misalignment is presumed to be a negative contributor. These presumptions should be true for all types of business environments including the e-commerce environment. This study develops and tests these presumptions by examining managers’ perceptions of

Consumers’ demand for convenience services led to an increase in the number of branches to serve a geographically dispersed customer base. Increasing the number of branches indiscriminately is not advisable since more branches increase the cost structure for the bank. Banking executives can evaluate the relative efficiency of branches, segments, and

A classic cost confrontation between set-up costs and inventory costs are examined in the study. The results reveal that the unique nature of the manufacturing organisation favours short-run production scheduling over a proposed long-run production scheduling policy. This article also presents the application of a decision support system (DSS) to aid in production scheduling. The applications reveals that improved scheduling and a reduction in scheduling time and effort can be achieved by using the DSS over the manufacturing organisations' manual systems.

The solution procedure is applied to solve a lexicographic goal programming problem. In the process of illustrating the problem, a number of unique technical problems and their solution procedures are discussed. This study provides a flowchart as a procedural guide to aid in its use. This article also provides a comparative analysis of GP algorithms. The results demonstrate the tableau element reduction capabilities of the proposed alternative goal programming solution procedure.
