This paper aims to address the consequences of excessive use of Instagram on the negative feeling of losing information when not connected and the emotional fatigue resulting from an overcharge with new information. The mediating role of addiction between Instagram overuse and the two outcomes is also analyzed. Design/methodology/approach-Data from 342 active Instagram users were used to test the proposed model, applying the partial least square equation modeling method (SmartPLS 3). Findings-Addiction partially mediates the impact of overuse on emotional fatigue and instastress. Addiction to Instagram was mainly due to respondents' lack of control over the time spent on it resulting in incapability to reduce its usage. Social implications-Social networking site managers, educators, families and public institutions should promote an adequate use of Instagram, making users (especially the young) aware of the potential threats of its excessive usage. The control on the amount of time devoted to Instagram is a key factor for detaining overuse and addiction, as well as avoiding the negative outcomes analyzed in this research. Originality/value-The findings contribute to the extant knowledge on the negative side of the digitization of the individual, as little is known about it to the best of the authors' knowledge.

This study analyzes the influence of consumer-perceived dimensions of corporate social responsibi... more This study analyzes the influence of consumer-perceived dimensions of corporate social responsibility (CSR) from a sustainable development approach (i.e. economic, social, and environmental) on the dimensions of perceived value (i.e. utilitarian, emotional, and social value). The study also analyzes the moderating effect of perceived consumer effectiveness (PCE) in the value generation process around CSR. A theoretical model is estimated with data from 661 consumers of Inditex or Danone products, leading firms in the textile and dairy sectors, respectively. Results indicate that functional value is determined by economic and social dimensions of CSR. Emotional value can be enhanced through the three CSR dimensions but social dimension has the greatest influence. Finally, firms can only influence social value through social CSR initiatives because it is unaffected by environmental and economic dimensions. The moderating effect of PCE is confirmed by the influence of the social dimension of CSR on the three types of value and the influence of the economic dimension of CSR on consumer functional value.

La literatura muestra estudios centrados en analizar los principales determinantes de esta participación. Si bien algunos de estos trabajos incluyen el género como variable demográfica explicativa de este consumo, los resultados obtenidos son contradictorios. Por ello, el presente artículo desarrolla una investigación empírica mediante encuesta personal con el objetivo de analizar el rol del género, así como de los motivos y frenos de consumo, en la asistencia a conciertos de música. La no existencia de grandes diferencias entre hombres y mujeres se encuentra entre los principales resultados.

Music studies as cultural capital accumulation and its impact on music genre preferences

Music preferences have been shown to be determined by a diversity of factors such as cognitive, e... more Music preferences have been shown to be determined by a diversity of factors such as cognitive, emotional, cultural, or experiential. Having studied music is also a factor that has been considered from a musicology standpoint and is linked to the accumulation of cultural capital, as analyzed in cultural economics, arts management, and the sociology of culture. Research on how music studies influence music genre preferences shed light on the role that music education plays in the stock of cultural capital individuals hold. To do so, an exploratory empirical survey was undertaken using self-administered questionnaires targeted to a sample of 231 students. Findings, after performing multivariate analysis, showed that knowledge or familiarity plays an important role in music genre preferences. Specifically, having studied music affects the choice of music genres. These results contribute to the literature on music preferences, and specifically on their determinants, establishing the connection of music education with the accumulation of cultural capital and its influence on the formation of music genre preferences.

Preferences are essential in explaining consumer choice and have been studied from different stan... more Preferences are essential in explaining consumer choice and have been studied from different standpoints. Some empirical studies aimed at measuring music preferences have used direct procedures (i.e., list of genres), while other studies have used indirect measures (i.e., listening to excerpts of music). This article focuses on analyzing music-genre preferences to identify whether they differ depending on the type of measure used (direct vs. indirect), studying their consistency. A survey was conducted among 753 individuals. The results highlight not only the discrepancies of using one measure or another but also the relevance of familiarity and experience, associated with individuals’ endowment of cultural capital. Findings explain the (in)consistency of reported preferences through direct and indirect means. All in all, the research suggests that direct and indirect methods to measure music preferences may be capturing different dimensions.

El presente estudio analiza, con carácter exploratorio, las pautas generales de consumo de música, así como la actitud de los individuos hacia la piratería musical, con especial interés en su postura ética. La distribución omnicanal es la estrategia que están adoptando las empresas minoristas, lo que si... more La distribución omnicanal es la estrategia que están adoptando las empresas minoristas, lo que significa la proliferación de canales y puntos de contacto a disposición de los consumidores para interactuar con las empresas durante el proceso de compra. Las redes sociales, en particular, han emergido con fuerza como un canal que el consumidor puede utilizar en la etapa post-compra para plantear quejas y reclamaciones. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la elección del canal de queja en función del canal de compra, y de la satisfacción y el compromiso del cliente con el minorista. Con datos de 702 compradores de un panel online, obtenemos que el efecto de lock-in o retención del canal es fuerte, que la satisfacción afecta negativamente la elección de las redes sociales como canal de queja, pero el compromiso ejerce una influencia negativa sobre la probabilidad de comprar offline pero positiva en el uso de las redes sociales como canal de queja.
