Nosocomial infections is an infection that is acquired the patients for being treated occurring d... more Nosocomial infections is an infection that is acquired the patients for being treated occurring during 72 hours where formerly the patient does not show signs and a symptom of infection on the way to the hospital. The role of nurse to control the occurrence of nosocomial infections such as maintaining the cleanliness of hospitals that are based on hospital policy and practice of nursing, aseptic techniques including monitoring hand washing and the use of isolation, reporting to the doctor if any problems with signs and symptoms of infection at the time of provision of health services, performing isolation if the patient shows signs of infectious disease, limiting the exposure of patients to infection that comes from visitors, hospital staff, other patients, or tools used for diagnosis or nursing care; maintaining security of equipment, drugs and supplies in treatment of nosocomial infection transmission room. This research is a descriptive design with random sampling techniques and using 61 nurses as the sample. It has been recognized the role of nurses in control of nosocomial infections at Dr. T. Mansyur public hospital, Tanjungbalai, Sumatera Utara. The result showed that role of nurses in control nosocomial infections good of 37.7 % and role of nurse in control nosocomial infections good enough of 62.3 %. Researchers expects to the hospital to improve the quality of nursing services with a training about nosocomial infections.
