Without a rapid move, proper control and preventive measures put in place, a destructive effect on both human lives and properties becomes inevitable. During the fire emergencies, speedy response and access to the incident scene is of the highest priority. With the recent exploration of smartphones capabilities and applications, they become more suitable for reporting fire emergencies based on the knowledge of technical know-how and object-oriented analysis and design. In this paper, we have analyzed the associated shortcomings of the manual fire reporting system and as well designed an automated framework; Fire Emergency Mobile Application and Central System (FEMACS). FEMACS is a mobile fire alert app developed based on Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) that allows users/individuals to report an outbreak in a real-time to the nearest fire emergency department with an indication of a shortest route to follow. A Unified Modelling Language (UML): Use Case, Class Diagram, Sequence Diagram, Collaborative Activity and State-Chart Diagram of the fire reporting application model were developed and used to visualize the design view based on some functional and non-functional requirements. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) prototype for the proposed automated system was also implemented. Our design has shown an efficient way of reporting fire outbreaks with an integration of a central system using Object-Oriented Analysis and Design Approach.

Image processing plays an important role in various field of human endeavor. Retinex method is wi... more Image processing plays an important role in various field of human endeavor. Retinex method is widely used to improve the quality of the processed images. It provides better dynamic range compression, lightness rendition and color constancy.it also aimed at mimicking human vision system and lead to efficient algorithm for enhancing local image contrast. Various researchers proposed distinctive methods for enhancing image quality. The oldest and most popular image enhancement algorithm is histogram equalization which is used to improve the contrast of image. Other methods are Single-Scale and Multi-Scale Retinex (MSR) used for image quality enhancement, but cause some halation problem, high computation time and does not preserve edges. Recursive bilateral filter can able to do its best for solving the problems faced in previous algorithms but still has high computation time. In this paper, we proposed fast and efficient method for improving the quality of an image and reducing the computational time using three main steps: 1. Apply Fast Fourier transform to the input image, to convert the image frequency domain from spatial domain and multiply gaussian filter with illumination in frequency domain, this will speed up the processing time and provide better result. 2. Errors and defect detection in software are identify using software techniques and tools. These techniques and tools are numerous and to improve on the software quality, there is the need to conduct a testing activity using a suitable technique so as to ascertained a product with an excellent quality features such as being; reliable, secure, efficient etc. In most cases, multiple automated techniques and tools are required to cover all the possible testing state, with the requirement of high skilled expertise, making it professional. The aim of this paper is to investigate on some kind of dynamic testing techniques (white, black and grey box) and an automated tools (load, web and mobile) given their comparative and evaluation analysis based on an established criterion. The conclusion of this investigation, has shown that choosing an appropriate techniques/tools increases test depth, software reliability and as well reduces their execution period with greater flexibility.

As the population of the Nigerian universities is increasing rapidly, the paper-based attendance ... more As the population of the Nigerian universities is increasing rapidly, the paper-based attendance becomes highly difficult to manage by most of the Nigerian lecturers and also by the managements of the institutions. Most of the managements need to have the attendance records of all their students before the commencement of examination. However, Nigerian universities are facing a lot of problems with visiting lecturers, in view of this, the managements usually need to have the attendance records of the visiting lecturers and number of times they took lectures in each semester for the processing of their allowances. Mostly, Nigerian universities have policy that student most have 75% attendance in order to allow him sit for examination of that semester. The issue of paper-based attendance has caused a lot of problems in obtaining the accurate records. The aim of this paper is to provide an efficient way of taking attendance in Nigerian universities using face recognition. The use of face recognition in carrying out the attendance in Nigerian universities will provide solution to the major problems being faced during paper-based attendance in the classrooms. The algorithm works by using single scale Retinex with bi-histogram equalization to enhance the image captured. Viola-jone algorithm was used to detect the face and principal component analysis (PCA) to recognize the student face by comparing with template images stored in the database. The proposed system provided above 90% accuracy which is an improvement to the existing face recognition algorithms.
