It affects women 3.5 times more than men. AIM: Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effect of effleurage massage therapy on symptoms of osteoarthritis in elderly women with osteoarthritis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study was a cross-sectional clinical trial with a control group on 58 elderly women with mild to moderate osteoarthritis in 2018. At the first stage of the study, we give a massage on each knee every day for 15 min a week by the Effleurage method with standard treatment (100 mg diclofenac) and the control group only received standard treatment. At the second stage, the intervention was shifted in groups according to the study type after 3 weeks of washout. The research instrument was a native questionnaire (The Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score [KOOS]). We analyzed data using the SPSS20. RESULTS: The research results indicated that knee massage techniques could reduce the severity of symptoms at both stages of the study in the intervention group. At the first stage, the severity of symptoms in Group A (intervention group) significantly decreased after the intervention compared to the pre-intervention and also decreased after washout in Group B (intervention group) after the intervention compared to the pre-intervention (p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION: Given the effect of massage on reducing symptoms of knee osteoarthritis (morning dryness, stiffness, and swelling,) in elderly women with osteoarthritis, massage therapy is recommended as an effective intervention to reduce symptoms of knee osteoarthritis in these patients.

Introduction: Midwives are always faced with ethical challenges in their day care, so they need t... more Introduction: Midwives are always faced with ethical challenges in their day care, so they need to be aware of the legal and professional aspects of their care. The purpose of this study was to evaluate knowledge of midwives about rules and regulations and professional Ethical codes in North Khorasan hospital in 2018. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on midwives working in the maternity department of affiliated hospitals of North Khorasan province in 2018 using census method. The tools used in this study were demographic questionnaire and knowledge of professional ethics codes and midwifery rules and regulations. Data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 16) and descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, Spearman correlation coefficient. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: In this study, the mean of midwives 'knowledge of professional ethics codes was 7.82 ± 1.88 and the mean of midwives' knowledge of midwifery rules and regulations was12.7 ± 2.89. Most people had moderate awareness of professional ethical codes in 66 (78.6%) and 40 (47.6%) of them had low and 40 (47.6%) of them had moderate knowledge of midwifery laws and regulations. Conclusions: Due to insufficient midwives' awareness of professional ethical codes and midwifery rules and regulations, implementation of retraining programs to improve midwive's awareness in order to improve performance and increase satisfaction as well as reduce health errors seems necessary.

According to this theory, patients can recover more quickly and holistically if they carry out their own self cares to the best of their ability. This study was performed with aim to investigate the application of Orem's theory for promotion of self-care behaviors of pregnant women at risk for preterm delivery. Methods: This clinical trial was done on 176 pregnant women at 24-26 gestational week at risk for preterm delivery who referred to health centers of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in 2015-2016. The research tools included Holbrook risk-scoring for preterm labor questionnaire, demographic and obstetric questionnaire and Hart prenatal care actions scale. Background: Preterm birth is increasing as a major cause of perinatal complications and mortality... more Background: Preterm birth is increasing as a major cause of perinatal complications and mortality in Iran. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of prenatal self-care based on Orem's theory on preterm birth occurrence in women at risk for preterm birth. Materials and Methods: The present clinical trial was conducted on 176 pregnant women at 24-26 weeks at risk for preterm birth in Mashhad, Iran, from December 2015 to October 2016. A multistage sampling method was used in this study. The intervention group (88 pregnant women) received individual self-care education but the control group (88 pregnant women) received only common prenatal care. Results: There was a statistically significant difference between intervention and control groups in terms of preterm birth occurrence (6.80% vs 20.50%) ( 2 = 6.90, df = 1, p = 0.008). The incidence of preterm birth in the intervention group was approximately three times higher than that in the control group. Conclusions: Given that educational interventions could reduce the incidence of preterm birth, it is suggested that the women at risk for preterm birth are trained for prenatal self-care.
