Enrique has not seen her…-Cándida Beltrán Rendón, El secreto de la abuela, original film story Around 1914, at the age of sixteen, Cándida Beltrán Rendón wrote the film story El secreto de la abuela/The Grandmother's Secret. A copy of this story can be found in the Archivo General de la Nación in Mexico City. Fourteen years later, in 1928, Beltrán Rendón, at thirty years of age, directed her first and only motion picture-a feature-from a script based on her story and became the last of the five women who directed during Mexican cinema's silent period. Granddaughter of José Rendón Peniche (1829-1887), an important political figure in the southeast region of Mexico during the nineteenth century (Ciuk 2000, 69), Cándida's full name was Candelaria Beltrán Rendón. Although she was not the firstborn of the siblings, after her parents died, she took charge of a large family composed of at least seven girls and two boys. Unlike the actress and producer Mimí Derba, the Italian opera singer María Cantoni, or the photographers and documentary filmmakers Adriana and Dolores Ehlers-the four primary women directors of Mexican cinema-Beltrán Rendón had no previous experience in either the theatre or motion pictures. Instead, she worked in Mexico City as an employee of the town hall and in a shoe store. Her path into the field remains unknown, but she secured the help of Jorge

Obra juvenil de Jean de Meun, es utilizada por el autor de este trabajo para analizar el sistema de trabajo del poeta asi como sus ideas sobre la estetica y los principios de su particular concepcion de la vida. Aprovecha el texto tambien para analizar numerosos pormenores de la vida cotidiana referidos principalmente al vestido y a la musica. Tras la reproduccion del texto y su traduccion ofrece varios apendices con el tratamiento de diversos autores clasicos y modernos sobre el conocido mito. The Fractional Calculus represents a natural instrument to model non-local phenomena either in sp... more The Fractional Calculus represents a natural instrument to model non-local phenomena either in space or time that involve different scales. In this paper, we present a generalization of the linear one-dimensional diffusion and wave equations obtained by combining the fractional derivatives and the internal degrees of freedom associated to the system. Actually, taking into account that the free Dirac equation is, in some sense, the square root of the Klein-Gordon equation, in a similar way we can operate a kind of square root of the time fractional Diffusion equation in one space dimension through the system of fractional evolution-diffusion equations Dirac like. Solutions of the above system could model the diffusion of particles whose behavior depends not only on the space and time coordinates, but also on their internal structures. We study some analytical and invariance properties of the system highlighting its interpolation between the hyperbolic and parabolic behaviors.

Such an equation contains a fractional derivative of order α varying in (0, 1] in time and a first order partial derivative in space. It can be seen as one of the two roots that we would obtain operating a kind of square root of the time fractional diffusion equation in one space dimension, with fractional derivative in time of order α ∈ [1, 2]. Solutions of this equation could model the diffusion of particles whose behavior depends not only on the space and time coordinates, but also on their internal structures. A numerical scheme based on convolution quadrature formula is given for solving this equation and the associated stability bounds are checked in some concrete case.

We briefly review the state-of-the-art of research on nonlinear wave propagation in disordered me... more We briefly review the state-of-the-art of research on nonlinear wave propagation in disordered media. The paper is intended to provide the non-specialist reader with a flavor of this active field of physics. Firstly, a general introduction to the subject is made. We describe the basic models and the ways to study disorder in connection with them. Secondly, analytical and numerical techniques suitable for this purpose are outlined. We summarize their features and comment on their respective advantages, drawbacks and applicability conditions. Thirdly, the Nonlinear Klein-Gordon and Schrödinger equations are chosen as specific examples. We collect a number of results that are representative of the phenomena arising from the competition between nonlinearity and disorder. The review is concluded with some remarks on open questions, main current trends and possible further developments.

We first show how usual decompositions of the ifJ4 chain excitations into translation, internal-oscillation, and phonon modes are valid up to a certain time that depends on the noise strength. By means of this decomposition we study the effects of dynamical disorder in the system on soliton propagation. The pinning of a kink on an unperturbed-perturbed boundary is considered in the adiabatic approximation. We then compute how the radiation generated by the kink absorbs energy in a resonant way from the noise at times later than the validity limit of our approximation. We conclude with a discussion of our findings and some comments on open questions and further extensions of this work. 2554

Here, we report that citron, a protein target for the activated form of the small GTP-binding protein Rho, preferentially binds the third PDZ domain of PSD-95. In GABAergic neurons from the hippocampus, citron forms a complex with PSD-95 and is concentrated at the postsynaptic side of glutamatergic synapses. Citron is expressed only at low levels in glutamatergic neurons in the hippocampus and is not detectable at synapses onto these neurons. In contrast to citron, p135 SynGAP, an abundant synaptic Ras GTPase-activating protein that can bind to all three PDZ domains of PSD-95, and Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaM kinase II) are concentrated postsynaptically at glutamatergic synapses on glutamatergic neurons. Biodiversity conservation discourses. A case study on scientists and government authorities in Sierra de Huautla Biosphere Reserve, Mexico

Aiming to explore the relationship between natural protected areas operation and how conservation... more Aiming to explore the relationship between natural protected areas operation and how conservation is logically described, this paper analyzes the discourses that government authorities and scientists developed on conservation and social participation in Sierra de Huautla Biosphere Reserve. Our results indicate that conservation is understood as the intent to keep nature with the lowest possible level of human interference, as its main strategies are: to eliminate inhabitant's unawareness about nature and to reinforce environmental legislation and inspection. Social participation was acknowledged as essential in reserve management, but local inhabitants, even when recognized as important actors, were excluded from the reserve co-administration scheme and mainly regarded as the beneficiaries of already designed projects. In order to achieve SHBR environmental and social goals, it is necessary to modify authorities' comprehension of social participation toward a process that supports social change by empowering NPA inhabitants and transforming them into political actors.

Hierarchical structures have been widely used by human organizations because they provide the nat... more Hierarchical structures have been widely used by human organizations because they provide the natural means to delegate tasks, to reduce communication lines and to control the activities performed into them. This has motivated the development of different approaches to automate many of the activities that take place in hierarchical organizations. Recent frameworks, such as Gaia, Aalaadin, HarmonIA and OperA, among others, have considered the agent paradigm to do so without taking into account that organizations are dynamic entities that evolve with the time and, consequently, agents must adapt to changes. Here we develop a model for flexible and open hierarchical organizations where agents can dynamically adapt themselves to organizational changes.

The present study aims to develop a hybrid scheme using trigonometric cubic B-spline basis functi... more The present study aims to develop a hybrid scheme using trigonometric cubic B-spline basis functions with differential quadrature method for solving nonlinear Schrödinger equation in both one and two dimensions. This method reduces the nonlinear equation into a set of ordinary differential equations which can be further solved by the modified form of Ruge-Kutta method. This proposed method has been applied to this equation using two different approaches and also has been tested for proficiency on seven numerical examples. The obtained numerical results found to be synonymous when related with the exact solution. The obtained numerical results are also in good agreement with the results available in the literature. Comparison of numerical and the exact solution is depicted in the form of figures and tables.

The processes that involve different space and time scales appear in a wide range of contexts, from physics and chemistry to biology and engineering. In many of these problems, the dynamics of the system can be formulated in terms of fractional differential equations which include the nonlocal effects either in space or time. We give a brief, nonexhaustive, panoramic view of the mathematical tools associated with fractional calculus as well as a description of some fields where either it is applied or could be potentially applied.

During development, the formation of mature neural circuits requires the selective elimination of... more During development, the formation of mature neural circuits requires the selective elimination of inappropriate synaptic connections. Here we show that C1q, the initiating protein in the classical complement cascade, is expressed by postnatal neurons in response to immature astrocytes and is localized to synapses throughout the postnatal CNS and retina. Mice deficient in complement protein C1q or the downstream complement protein C3 exhibit large sustained defects in CNS synapse elimination, as shown by the failure of anatomical refinement of retinogeniculate connections and the retention of excess retinal innervation by lateral geniculate neurons. Neuronal C1q is normally downregulated in the adult CNS; however, in a mouse model of glaucoma, C1q becomes upregulated and synaptically relocalized in the adult retina early in the disease. These findings support a model in which unwanted synapses are tagged by complement for elimination and suggest that complement-mediated synapse elimination may become aberrantly reactivated in neurodegenerative disease.

In this paper, in order to extend the lattice Boltzmann method to deal with more nonlinear equati... more In this paper, in order to extend the lattice Boltzmann method to deal with more nonlinear equations, a onedimensional (1D) lattice Boltzmann scheme with an amending function for the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation is proposed. With the Taylor and Chapman-Enskog expansion, the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation is recovered correctly from the lattice Boltzmann equation. The method is applied on some test examples, and the numerical results have been compared with the analytical solutions or the numerical solutions reported in previous studies. The L 2 , L ∞ and Root-Mean-Square (RMS) errors in the solutions show the efficiency of the method computationally.

In many of these problems, the dynamics of the system can be formulated in terms of fractional differential equations which include the nonlocal effects either in space or time. We give a brief, nonexhaustive, panoramic view of the mathematical tools associated with fractional calculus as well as a description of some fields where either it is applied or could be potentially applied.

Here we show that C1q, the initiating protein in the classical complement cascade, is expressed by postnatal neurons in response to immature astrocytes and is localized to synapses throughout the postnatal CNS and retina. Mice deficient in complement protein C1q or the downstream complement protein C3 exhibit large sustained defects in CNS synapse elimination, as shown by the failure of anatomical refinement of retinogeniculate connections and the retention of excess retinal innervation by lateral geniculate neurons. Neuronal C1q is normally downregulated in the adult CNS; however, in a mouse model of glaucoma, C1q becomes upregulated and synaptically relocalized in the adult retina early in the disease. These findings support a model in which unwanted synapses are tagged by complement for elimination and suggest that complement-mediated synapse elimination may become aberrantly reactivated in neurodegenerative disease.

In this paper, in order to extend the lattice Boltzmann method to deal with more nonlinear equati... more In this paper, in order to extend the lattice Boltzmann method to deal with more nonlinear equations, a onedimensional (1D) lattice Boltzmann scheme with an amending function for the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation is proposed. With the Taylor and Chapman-Enskog expansion, the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation is recovered correctly from the lattice Boltzmann equation. The method is applied on some test examples, and the numerical results have been compared with the analytical solutions or the numerical solutions reported in previous studies. The L 2 , L ∞ and Root-Mean-Square (RMS) errors in the solutions show the efficiency of the method computationally.
