Luis German Naranjo

Luis German Naranjo is a Colombian Naturalist with more than 40 years of experience as lecturer, researcher and coordinator of Conservation programs. Luis was a Professor and researcher at the Valle University in Cali, Colombia for 17 years, Director of International Programs for the American Bird Conservancy (ABC) for two years, Ecoregional Coordinator for the Northern Andes for WWF between 2001 and 2006, and Conservation Director for WWF Colombia between 2007 and 2023. In his last position, he was responsible for maintaining the conceptual coherence of conservation portfolios for the Chocó-Darien, Northern Andes, Orinoco and northwestern Amazon regions, including projects dealing with forest, freshwater, and marine ecosystems and species.

Dr Naranjo has served in the advisory councils of several conservation and academic institutions, including Wetlands International, the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Research Network, the National Fish and Wildlife Federation, the North American Waterbird Council, and the Alexander von Humboldt biodiversity research Institute. In 2019, he was elected as corresponding member of the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences in recognition of his lifetime commitment to research, teaching and conservation.
