This study investigates the pivotal role of self-regulated learning in higher education and explo... more This study investigates the pivotal role of self-regulated learning in higher education and explores to what extent teachers’ conceptions of formative assessment influence the development of students’ self-regulated learning skills. Despite the recognised significance of self-regulated learning, many students in higher education lack effective self-regulation strategies. Therefore, the teachers’ role is paramount. We investigated teachers’ beliefs and practices concerning assessment and the influence on self-regulated learning development through qualitative interviews with 16 teachers from different programmes. Findings reveal that teachers, influenced by their conceptions, strive to provide feedback primarily at the task and process levels, not adequately addressing the self-regulation level. In these courses, student learning is commonly measured using conventional classroom tests, therefore test preparation is a common task for students. In higher education, compared with students’ prior education, they are faced with a more complex curriculum and have to perform their studies with less guidance and limited resources. Therefore, effective and efficient test preparation is important. A strategy to help students study effectively in the context of test preparation is to make the appropriate control decisions, for instance to cease test preparation on specific content and (re) study other subjects that need attention. Het beroepsonderwijs, zowel middelbaar als hoger, staat voor de taak om jongeren uit te rusten me... more Het beroepsonderwijs, zowel middelbaar als hoger, staat voor de taak om jongeren uit te rusten met beroepsvaardigheden, waarmee zij de onzekerheden van de toekomstige arbeidsmarkt te lijf kunnen. In dit artikel betogen wij, dat het klassieke lineaire model voor curriculumontwikkeling niet meer voldoet, om tenminste drie redenen: door de functionele inslag ontbreekt aandacht voor de vormende component; met de beroepenstructuur als uitvalsbasis, worden ambities en interesses van studenten uit het oog verloren; de arbeidsmarkt van (over)morgen wordt benaderd met kennis van (eer)gisteren. Aan de hand van onder meer John Dewey en Hannah Arendt zoeken wij naar meer adequate ontwerpregels voor toekomstgericht beroepsonderwijs. Therefore, this study aims to explore how members of vocational communities, both individually and as a collective, enact specific pedagogic practices to contribute to novices’ learning. The systematic literature review that will be presented in the interactive poster session is the first study of a PhD project and provides an overview of situational pedagogic practices which attempt to support novices’ learning at the workplace.

Onder beroepsonderwijs wordt al het onderwijs verstaan dat opleidt tot beroepsuitoefening zowel beroepsonderwijs voor laaggekwalificeerde functies als studies in het hoger onderwijs die opleiden tot arts, fysiotherapeut of accountant (Billett, 2011). In dit symposium beperken we ons tot het middelbaar en hoger beroepsonderwijs (mbo en hbo) waarbij de meeste aandacht uitgaat naar het mbo.
