The objectives of this study were to analyze the population structure and genetic variability of ... more The objectives of this study were to analyze the population structure and genetic variability of two communities, Costa da Lagoa (CLG) and São João do Rio Vermelho (SJRV), located on Santa Catarina Island in southern Brazil. The two populations descend from Azores Archipelago immigrants (Portuguese), with a minor contribution of sub-Saharan Africans and Amerindians. To estimate the relative contribution of the different ethnic groups to the current gene pool of the two communities, values of admixture were obtained using the weighted least-squares method based on allelic frequencies of the loci ABO, RHD-RHCE, GPA-GPB (MNSs), HBB, HP, TF, CP, AK, and ACP1. The origins of the studied populations can be quantified as follows: for CLG, sub-Saharan Africans (A) = 17.3%, Iberian Europeans (P) = 75.0%, and Southern Amerindians (I) = 7.7%; for SJRV, A = 48.8%, P = 44.5%, and I = 6.7%. Because haplotype frequencies of the GPA-GPB loci in SJRV were unusual, possibly as a consequence of random genetic drift, the values of admixture were recalculated after exclusion of GPA-GPB, as follows: A = 28.0%; P = 53.3%, and I = 18.7%. The total diversity (HT) was estimated as 42.29%, of which 99.6% can be attributed to the intrapopulational variability (HS). The interpopulational genetic variation (or standard distance, DST) corresponds to 0.19%, while the gene differentiation coefficient is 0.28%, indicative of low genetic difference. These results led to the conclusion that random genetic drift may have had an important effect on the Costa da Lagoa community, while presently gene flow might be the predominant evolutionary factor potentially capable of changing allele frequencies in SJRV.

For this test, 11 subjects, between 25 and 35 years old, were selected from an initial 12-member group. An affective test, with 117 consumers was also carried out and the results were analyzed by internal preference mapping.The least accepted samples were the ones with the lowest sweetness intensity, indicating that jam consumers prefer sweeter products. Also, one of them presented a higher sourness intensity, which may have had a negative influence on its acceptance. It is important to point out the fact that those least accepted samples were the low-calorie products.The internal preference mapping and cluster analysis showed two consumer clusters. The first one was a higher concentration of consumers toward traditional samples, and the second one showed a lower concentration of consumers in the direction of one of the low-calorie samples.Time–intensity analysis was applied for sweet and sour tastes and strawberry flavor of six commercial brands of strawberry jam. In this work, three different brands of light peach iced tea (A, B and C), purchased in a local m... more In this work, three different brands of light peach iced tea (A, B and C), purchased in a local market and packed in PET bottles were sensory analyzed. At first, Quantitative Descriptive Analysis (QDA) was conducted in order to obtain the sensorial profile, with eleven tasters, previously selected and trained. The product acceptance was evaluated by 33 consumers, representing the target public. The QDA results were submitted to ANOVA, Tukey's test and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The sample A was mainly characterized by banana aroma and flavor; the sample B by artificial peach aroma and refreshment; while the sample C by sweetness and natural peach aroma. The acceptance test, analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey's test, showed a greater acceptance for the sample C. The colour of the samples was evaluated by the Cielab L*a*b* method and the sample C stood out by the red colour.
O artigo discorre sobre a importância do uso de metadados em Bibliotecas Digitais e Sistemas de A... more O artigo discorre sobre a importância do uso de metadados em Bibliotecas Digitais e Sistemas de Arquivos e propõe uma solução de desenvolvimento que possibilite disseminar dados descritos em múltiplos padrões de metadados. O estudo baseia-se na representatividade de cada um dos padrões internacionalmente aceitos, e como eles suprem, ou não, a completude informacional necessária a cada tipologia documental. O estudo se dividiu nas seguintes fases: a) escolha do tema considerando-se sua relevância e importância para bibliotecas digitais; b) seleção de alunos interessados e capacitados para estudo do tema proposto, visando fazer uso da interdisciplinaridade informação-computação; c) levantamento de materiais com abrangência nas áreas de Ciências da Informação e Computação; d) criação de uma proposta de solução para o problema pesquisado, estudo da viabilidade das possíveis soluções, escolha e melhoria da mais adequada e, por fim, e) a escrita do artigo.
