A high temperature superconducting power cable (HTS power cable) was applied large current capaci... more A high temperature superconducting power cable (HTS power cable) was applied large current capacity by no resistance in normal state. Fault state was risen out of over-current but, it was limited to resistance. This study was modeling equivalence, and unbalanced state analyzed operating characteristic of HTS power cable. The equivalence model was composed superconductor, shield, and former part. This model simulation was appeared conductor and shield current in normal state, but unbalanced state was appeared former current as rise current by resistance. So it need to sufficiently influenced the quench characteristic when the former design.

With rapid development of world economics, electricity demand in metropolitan area has been incre... more With rapid development of world economics, electricity demand in metropolitan area has been increased dramatically. HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) cable is one of most promising technology to solve the bottleneck of electric network. However, HTS cable is not considered as matured technology yet to power system planners because of its different characteristics with conventional metal conductors. This paper suggests the comparison results of HTS cable simulation and experiment on steady state operation, also give the simulation results on transient characteristics of HTS cable components. This results could devote not only to discuss the security of HTS cable operation, but also to design power system oriented HTS cable.

Uncertainty of power system operation increases due to complexity and facilities diversification ... more Uncertainty of power system operation increases due to complexity and facilities diversification in the power system. Therefore the importance of SCADA(Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system which obtain and manage the actual data in real-time is very important. Accordingly in the studies of power system analysis, the efforts to include real-time power system analysis in simulation and applications are made in many ways. The real-time communication characteristics of SCADA system is considered so as to develop the power system analysis program that matches actual system conditions. The observation and management of SCADA system is realized by Intouch which is mainly used for factory automation and PSS/E(Power System Simulator for Engineers) provides real time system data. SQL DB and Python language is used for real-time communication between the softwares. It is very comfortable to use the various functions in Intouch WindowMaker.

Installation of FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission System) device can maximize utilization of existin... more Installation of FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission System) device can maximize utilization of existing power facilities and reliability of power system. STATCOM has excellent characteristics in operating cost, maintaining facilities, loss and so on. However, STATCOM has a disadvantage of facility cost over capacity. So it is effective to coordinate STATCOM and existing external bank(capacitor and reactor) and OLTC(On Load Tap Changer). This paper mainly proposes coordinative control method between STATCOM installed within substation and other reactive power resources including Shunt Reactors and Shunt Capacitors and OLTC for voltage stability improvement. The proposed coordinative control method is developed for the STATCOM of Mi-gum substation and the simulation results of EMTP/RV model show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this study, a transition of power quality was characterized by non-linear voltage electric equ... more In this study, a transition of power quality was characterized by non-linear voltage electric equipments under voltage sag. The test was inputted voltage sag to IPC(Sag Generator) from AVR, and then to equipments by IPC which adjust voltage magnitude and duration. The load test which non-linear voltage electric equipments used PLC, Magnetic Contactor, SMPS, HID Lamp. The test result was different from each other according to a manufacturing companys, models, and equipments. PLC was greatly described to be stabilized voltage sag in case of no load then rated load. Magnetic Contactor was made a difference to phase angles on voltage sag, which was , , , . HPD Lamp was described to be stabilized the sodium lamp, and to be unstabilized the metal hailed lamp. The test result was showed CBEMA curve that stand for evaluated responsiveness of voltage sag. This study was tested description to dynamic characteristics on non-linear voltage electric equipment under voltage sag. There was hoped that power system designed the essential particulars.

HT... more This paper suggests the harmonic effects on HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) power cable. HTS cable is regarded as not only one of the important countermeasure to supply high density power demand area, but also one of countermeasures greenhouse technology. However, with the development of digital society, the distribution line power is much contaminated with harmonics generated by various power electronic equipments. This paper describes how the HTS cable responds to the harmonic and increases AC losses caused by hysteresis phenomenon. EMTDC based harmonic simulation results are compared with AC loss measured values.

This paper discusses the effects of CD type superconducting cable operation in 22.9kV multi neutr... more This paper discusses the effects of CD type superconducting cable operation in 22.9kV multi neutral grounded distribution system during L-G fault and counterplans to power system protection. In case of using the 3-phase CD-type superconducting cable, the inductance of superconducting cable system would be decreased due to the current of shield part of superconducting cable, which is opposite direction and nearly equal value with respect to main superconductor. However, when the shield circuit system is operated in shorted state, shield current decreases faulted ground current and give effects to power system protection scheme. This study examines the phenomena of single line to ground fault case in above mentioned system using the EMTDC program and discusses the right operation method of superconducting shield.
