The application of Near Surface Mounted (NSM) method to strengthen reinforced concrete (RC) membe... more The application of Near Surface Mounted (NSM) method to strengthen reinforced concrete (RC) members in flexure through the use of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) rods has become a subject of interest to designers and researchers over the past few years. This technique has been extensively applied, and there is still a need for more experiments, analytical, and numerical studies to determine the effects of their parameters on the flexural performance of RC members. Therefore, a detailed 3D nonlinear finite element (FE) numerical model was developed in this study to predict the load-carrying capacity and the response of RC T-beams strengthened in the negative moment region accurately through the use of NSM FRP rods at different depth of embedment which are placed under three-point bending loading. The model was, however, designed with due consideration for the nonlinear constitutive material properties of concrete, yielding of steel reinforcement, NSM rods, and cohesive behaviors to si...

However, this renewable natural material has a low bearing capacity, limiting its application to structures under light loads. Therefore, this research was carried out to determine an innovative scheme capable of enhancing bamboo's load-bearing by filling the cavity with cement mortar. Furthermore, a study was carried out to experiment flexural load carrying capacity and the deflection of mortar-filled structural bamboo by considering the diameter and node parameters. A total of 12 specimens were examined using a four-point bending protocol. The result showed the ultimate flexural load carrying capacity of mortar-filled bamboo specimens are higher than those of the conventional bamboo specimens. Specifically, mortar filled bamboo specimen with a diameter of 70 mm was significantly better, 41.10 and 47.06%, as compared than the conventional bamboo in terms of its flexur...

The utilization of near-surface mounted Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) reinforcement as a method ... more The utilization of near-surface mounted Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) reinforcement as a method of strengthening in reinforced concrete structures has increased considerably in recent years. Moreover, the application of double-shear lap tests for this reinforcement method leads to the achievement of a local bond-slip behavior in a bonded joint. This research, therefore, focused on 3-D modeling of this type of test to suitably characterize the bond mechanics between FRP rods and concrete at various embedment depth. The use of different alternatives to represent the interface between the FRP rod and concrete were analyzed after which a comparison was drawn between the numerical finite element (FE) simulations and experimental measurements. The results showed the prediction of the load–slip corresponded with the data obtained from the experiment. Finally, the proposed model has the ability to express the relationship between the penalty stiffness parameters in shear direction Kss = (K...
