As albendazole sulphoxide (ABZS) shows better dissolution properties than albendazole (ABZ), a li... more As albendazole sulphoxide (ABZS) shows better dissolution properties than albendazole (ABZ), a lipidic matrix with this drug was formulated in order to evaluate if its absorption and so systemic infection chemotherapy could be improved. A cross-over, randomised study in 8 healthy volunteers was carried out, after single administration of 1 g of albendazole or albendazole sulphoxide in lipidic matrix of Gelucire 44/14 (ABZLM and ABZSLM). Absorption was followed performing albendazole sulphoxide dosage in urine samples by high pressure liquid chromatography analysis, during 48 hours. Significant differences were found (p = 0.02) between the urinary recoveries (% E48), being 1.74% and 0.19% the percentage of dose recovered when ABZSLM or of ABZLM were respectively administered. As a result, a series of enantiomerically pure [1,2-O-isopropylidene-α-d-erythro (and α-d-ribo)furanose]-3-spiro-3′-(4′-amino-5′H-2′,3′-dihydroisothiazole-1′,1′-dioxide) derivatives have been prepared and isolated in good yields.

We recently standardised Mesocestoides vogae (syn. corti) tetrathyridia cultures in the presence ... more We recently standardised Mesocestoides vogae (syn. corti) tetrathyridia cultures in the presence of sodium taurocholate. Parasite clustering and segmentation were observed as taurocholate-dependent effects in biphasic and monophasic media, respectively, and both were inhibited by a specific minimum inhibitory concentration (m.i.c.) of the cestocidal drugs albendazol and praziquantel. In the present study, we analysed the relationship between clustering inhibition and drug toxicity using praziquantel and a mouse experimental infection. In an "in vitro-in vivo" trial, a significant (ANOVA, P<0.05) reduction was observed in the infectivity of tetrathyridia previously cultured with praziquantel m.i.c. (0.06 micro g/ml) for 10 days. In an "in vivo-in vitro" trial, the clustering of tetrathyridia recovered from mice treated with praziquantel was found to be markedly reduced: 22%, compared with 83% cluster-containing wells of parasites from control mice. In order to assess the extent and the rate of absorption in bioavailability studies, area under t... more In order to assess the extent and the rate of absorption in bioavailability studies, area under the curve (AUC), experimental maximum concentration (Cmax) and experimental time to reach Cmax (Tmax), are used. But when slow-release formulations are considered, the drug concentration-time curves usually show multiple peaks, and it is difficult to compute a Cmax and Tmax value. In case a Cmax value is computed, important variability in this parameter results in high values in the residual variance of the ANDVA test. So in order to decrease the high variability, average parameters: average concentration (Cav), average maximum concentration (Cmax,av) and Cmax,av x lOO/Cav (%Cmax,av), are proposed.

En este caso, se estudian las posibilidades de implementación de un sistema de comunicación complementario al presencial para mejorar la participación e implicación tanto dentro como fuera del aula. El objetivo fundamental es el de extender los debates surgidos en el aula a un plano informal que permita la comunicación asíncrona -alumnos-profesor y entre alumnosde modo que se fomente la reflexión, síntesis de ideas y participación que, en ocasiones, por diversas cuestiones no llega a realizarse en el aula. El propósito es el de elevar el grado de implicación del alumnado en las asignaturas con el fin de incrementar el aprendizaje significativo de la materia. El servicio de red social Twitter es la herramienta elegida para la aplicación práctica de la propuesta planteada.
