Electric power demand is increasing day by day due to global industrialization, improved lifestyl... more Electric power demand is increasing day by day due to global industrialization, improved lifestyle and rapidly growing population. Future prospect is transition to renewable energy like solar, wind, tidal etc. Solar energy is clean, green and is in abundant form in tropical countries like India. The production of solar energy is a way to diminish dependency to fossil fuels, and to mitigate global warming by lowering of greenhouse gases emission. Solar photovoltaic is a key technology in renewable energy as it is free from maintenance, noise and pollution. But photovoltaic plant output varies based environmental conditions like solar irradiance, temperature, cloud movement etc. impacting quality of power output. This paper presents the fluctuating environmental conditions on overall power generation in PV based solar power plant. The problems related to grid stability like voltage & frequency fluctuations and relevant international standards and guidelines by Ministries and agencies in contest to India are also discussed related to grid tied PV inverters in large scale PV power plant. Impact of PWM based grid fed (central) inverters is also presented in this paper.
Bangalore, India ---------------------------------------------------------------------***--------... more Bangalore, India ---------------------------------------------------------------------***--------------------------------------------------------------------Abstract Rapid demand in electric power, depleting fossil fuels and global warming due to greenhouse gas emission shifting focus on renewable energy, especially on solar photovoltaic (PV) technology. PV components’ decreasing prices and increasing efficiency trend is benefiting PV systems as an electricity generator. Solar inverter is a critical and one of the most important pieces of equipment in a PV solar system, but it also contributes to reliability issues mainly because of its major population of power electronics, design and manufacturing quality issues which are in-fact side effects of present cost competitive trend in solar PV industry. The aim of this paper is to present technicality and design tradeoffs to guide customer in evaluating performance, and reliability parameters of an inverter to maximize generation and in...
