The objective of project is the analysis of harmonics in the signatures of motor current in various fault conditions of Variable Frequency Drive systems. The simulation is done on VSI fed induction motor at constant voltage/frequency and was carried out using MATLAB/ Simulink. Variable Frequency drives commonly uses "Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor" (IGBT).To get sine wave at required frequency IGBT uses "Pulse Width Modulation" technique for simulation. Simulation of an induction was developed and by observing the current, torque and speed responses, its dynamic response was verified to set up the acceptability of the developed system. Simulation of three various fault conditions were carried out here: one IGBTs gate signal is open circuited, one IGBT in the inverter section is blown off, line to ground fault occurs in one phase of the motor terminal. The technique of frequency domain analysis is used as a method to discriminate various faulty conditions. For various faulted conditions frequency responses characteristics were analyzed and collated to setup the use of Fast Fourier Transform algorithm to distinguish the characteristics of fault. Frequency responses of three various faulty states were emphatically different and were indubitably shown.

Majority of induction motors are used in inverter based drives in industrial setups. Efforts are being put in the fault analysis of induction motors. Most of the analysis available in literature discusses the failure of electronic components like power MOSFET, optocoupler failure, failure of pulse generation card etc. This research work is a continuation of fault analysis studies of an inverter fed induction motor drives under different fault conditions. This paper presents the effect of dc link capacitor open circuit on the performance of inverter fed induction motor. Effect on stator current, inverter output, the speed and torque of the motor are particularly studied in this paper. The faults in the DC link is generally not that common but there is always a chance of capacitor failure. The simulated results presented in this paper can augment the efforts for the reliability enhancement of induction motor drives.

To improve the energy efficiency, consumers need to be more aware of their energy consumption. In recent years, utilities have started developing new electric energy meters which are known as smart meters. A smart meter is a digital energy meter that measures the consumption of electrical energy and provides other additional information as compared to the traditional energy meter. The aim is to provide the consumer and supplier an easy way to monitor the energy. Smart meters are considered a key component of the smart grid as these will allow more interactivity between the consu mers and the provider. Smart meters will enable two-way and real-time communication between the consumers and the provider. Considering the increase of electricity demand in Saudi Arabia, smart meters can decrease the overall energy consumption. This paper presents the development of a GSM and ZigBee based smart meter. This meter can measure the energy and send the information to the service provider, who can store this information and notify the consumer through SMS messages or through the internet.

Modern industrial progress is dependent on these ruggedly constructed induction motors. Almost every sophisticated process of the industry is based on induction motors. The change in parameters of inverter makes it possible to control the motor according to the design requirements. The reliability of inverter based motor control is an important issue for industrial applications and therefore, it becomes very vital for design engineers to have comprehensive analysis of the inverter fed induction machine. In the proposed system, the PV is the primary energy source with the battery for storing (or retrieving) excessive (or stored) energy to pursue the lowest possible electricity bill but it is grid-tied to secure electric power delivery. Premise energy management scheme with an accurate yet practical load forecasting capability based on a Kalman filter is designed to increase the predictability in controlling the power flows among these power system components and the controllable electric appliances in the premise. The case studies with various operating scenarios demonstrate the validity of the proposed system and significant cost savings through operating the energy management scheme.

The results are discussed on the dust figure technique and also on the breakdown voltage / delay time characteristics, while keeping in view the magnitude of the pre-stressed DC applied voltage. Consequently, it was found that the surface charges accumulated on the spacer in the vicinity of the particle tip under the pre-stressed DC voltage play an important role in the particle initiated breakdown phenomenon.

Due to the massive numbers of the MPPT techniques in this field, it becomes essential to find and verify the most effective, simplest and reliable technique to be used. In this paper comparative studies of two different climbing MPPTs that are conventional perturb and observe and modified perturb and observe has been performed. The paper verifies their tracking performance through calculations. Simulations are also performed using MATLAB SIMULINK and results are analyzed. In addition, hardware implementation has been carried out which verifies simulation results. This study should serve as a strong evidence for practical feasibility of the modified perturb and observe method for MPPT.
