
Julio Roberto Costa
Julio Roberto Costa is a sociologist and psychoanalyst with a solid academic and professional background, integrating psychoanalysis as a fundamental tool for understanding social and cultural dynamics. With extensive experience in teaching, research, and clinical practice, his career stands out for its combination of scientific rigor, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary approaches.
He began his academic career by delving into the interfaces between Sociology and Psychoanalysis. He obtained a research grant from CNPq for the study “Freud's Theory of Society” and, during his master's degree, with support from CAPES, he developed innovative research on the cultural dynamics between groups and individuals.
As a professor, he taught at renowned educational institutions, such as PUC-RIO (Rio de Janeiro), A.E.U.D.F., and UPIS (Brasília), sharing his knowledge with different generations of students. He also worked as a Socioeconomic Analyst at Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation - Embrapa, conducting highly relevant field research, collaborating with national and international universities, and receiving four awards for research excellence.
He is the author of notable publications, including the book “Ser mais Pessoa”, published by Editora Litteris, which explores the interfaces between Sociology and Psychoanalysis, and its English version, “To Be More Person: A Reading of Otto Rank”, positively reviewed by The Journal of the Ernest Becker Foundation.
His international recognition includes active participation in the Existential Psychoanalytic Institute and Society – EPIS (USA) since 2016, where he has worked as a speaker, associate editor of the EPIS Journal, and participant in regular seminars. He was also invited to teach in the postgraduate program at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, one of the most prestigious universities in Hungary.
His academic work is supported by a well-established clinical psychoanalysis practice that researches the connections between psychoanalysis, social inequality, and power relations.
