Nur so ist ihr Wahlergebnis erklärbar. Das dramatisch schwache Resultat der Bundestagswahl 2021 war bereits ein eindringliches Warnsymbol. Eine offensive Antwort der Partei blieb aus – Ergebnis einer langen Problemakkumulation. Es kann daher nicht davon ausgegangen werden, dass die angestauten Probleme kurzfristig lösbar sind oder wirksam gelindert werden könnten. Auch besteht die Möglichkeit, dass sie überhaupt nicht gelöst werden, was politisch verheerend wäre. Dies zu verhindern, ist die entscheidende Herausforderung und dafür muss die Partei zunächst für ihre Mitglieder und bisherigen Wähler:innen attraktiv bleiben bzw. von Neuem attraktiver werden.

Die Debatten zu «Zeitenwende» und «Zeitdiagnose» fordern die linken und insbesondere die sozialis... more Die Debatten zu «Zeitenwende» und «Zeitdiagnose» fordern die linken und insbesondere die sozialistischen Akteure verstärkt heraus, die Analyse ihrer politischen Handlungsbedingungen und -möglichkeiten kritisch zu reflektieren und zu qualifizieren. Dafür gibt Rosa Luxemburg eine entscheidende Orientierung:
«Die erste Bedingung einer erfolgreichen Kampfpolitik ist das Verständnis für die Bewegungen des Gegners. Was gibt uns aber den Schlüssel zum Verständnis der bürgerlichen Politik bis in ihre kleinsten Verzweigungen, bis in die Verschlingungen der Tagespolitik, ein Verständnis, das uns gleichermaßen vor Überraschungen wie vor Illusionen bewahrt? Mai 2024 Die Antwort entscheidet über die Existenz der Partei DIE LINKE. Deshalb steht unsere Partei vor einer gravierenden Richtungsentscheidung: Wozu wird sie in diesem Land und in der Europäischen Union gebraucht? Es geht darum, ob DIE LINKE eine in der Gesellschaft verankerte sozialistische Partei sein will, die sich für die Lohnarbeitenden, für die sozial Benachteiligten und Bedürftigen in der Gesellschaft einsetzt-solidarisch hier vor Ort und bundesweit, europäisch und internationalistisch. Dies kann sie nur als Friedenspartei, als Partei, die die soziale und die ökologische Frage verbindet, die gegen jede Diskriminierung wegen Herkunft, Stellung im gesellschaftlichen Arbeitsprozess, Geschlecht, körperlicher und mentaler Verfasstheit oder Alter ankämpft.

Doch ihr Konzept blendet einige Widersprüche des kapitalistischen Staates aus. Judith Dellheim und Helge Peukert Ulrike Herrmanns Bestseller »Das Ende des Kapitalismus: Warum Wachstum und Klimaschutz nicht vereinbar sind-und wie wir in Zukunft leben werden« hat dem lange vergessenen bzw. verfemten Konzept der Planwirtschaft neue öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit beschert. Das Buch verspricht neue Einsichten und Impulse zum Weiterdenken und Weiterkämpfen gegen kapitalistische Krisen und den drohenden ökologischen Kollaps. Aus der Lektüre lässt sich vieles lernen, doch sie fordert uns als Ökosozialist*innen auch zu Kritik heraus.

Juli 1943 wurde in Berlin die antifaschistische Widerstandsgruppe "Europäische Union" gegründet. Ihr Ziel war die "Die Zusammenfassung aller antifaschistischen Kräfte Europas", um nach dem "Zusammenbruch Hitlers" die Macht zu ergreifen. Das wurde als Bedingung dafür gesehen, "alle ökonomischen und politischen Grundlagen des Faschismus durch Errichtung der sozialistischen Gesellschaftsordnung" überwinden zu können. Das sowjetische Modell galt nicht als Orientierung und es hieß: "Der Gedanke der vereinigten Staaten von Europa ist eine alte Hoffnung der Europäer ... Heute ist Europa vorbereitet und reif für diese radikale Lösung. Hitlers Umsiedlungsaktionen und die Verschleppung gewaltiger Massen ausländischer Arbeiter nach Deutschland haben den Boden für eine gesamteuropäische Lösung bereitet." Der Aufruf richtete sich insbesondere an die Zwangsarbeiter:innen. Von den Hauptakteuren der Widerstandsgruppe, zu denen insbesondere russische und ukrainische Verschleppte gehörten, hat nur der spätere DDR-Oppositionelle Robert Havemann die Befreiung erlebt.
The core question of this text is whether the current intensified debate on zero tariff in the co... more The core question of this text is whether the current intensified debate on zero tariff in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the consequences of its management, and of inflation resp. rising energy and food prices especially due to the Ukraine war offers possibilities to strengthen the idea and concept of zero tariff as a transformational instrument. The analysis of the discussion and literature on practical zero tariff experiences shows that the challenge is to target the debate on the long term, focusing upon the predictability of positive outcomes as an issue of public health. The focus must be on socially and ecologically sustainable mobility, on the development of public transport and the strong relativisation of the car as a means of satisfying mobility needs.
‘Joint-Stock Company’ and ‘Share Capital’ as Economic Categories of Critical Political Economy
This contribution seeks to reconstruct and discuss, in an exemplary way, the evolution and use of... more This contribution seeks to reconstruct and discuss, in an exemplary way, the evolution and use of the categories ‘joint-stock company’ and ‘share capital’ in Marx’s writings. The material considered, starting with 1844, is categorised into four periods, and guided by the two main questions: does financialisation under conditions of globalisation represent a new phenomenon, or merely the unfolding of capital relations and processes as already analysed by Marx? What are the implications of the answer to this question? In answering both questions, the impact of the second MEGA edition is of particular significance. These elaborations show how joint-stock companies and share capital have been transformed with the development of the capitalist mode of production, and how their role in the economy has changed, becoming and determining the new normality in it. Connected with this development, financialisation has developed as such. The analysis passes, then, into a more precise definition and theoretical explanation of ‘capital oligarchies’, into a conclusion on the cultural challenges facing more and more emancipatory-solidary actors, and thus into an argument for renewed engagement with the reception of Capital, Volume III in the context of a renewed ‘imperialism debate’ which will be of decisive importance for the revolutionary movement.

Lefebvre urged the supporters and followers of Marx to deal with the daily life of working people, which Langley takes up today. Through a critical appropriation and progression of the theories of Marx and Luxemburg, it is possible to discover and explain how financialisation progressively shapes the daily life of people and makes it extremely difficult to identify the common interests of the exploited. These interests are to be found in housing and pension systems in particular and to be utilised by emancipatory-solidary agents.

The overarching question on how to overcome the present great and complex crisis is being asked b... more The overarching question on how to overcome the present great and complex crisis is being asked by many people in addition to many scientists following more specific approaches. This contribution presents a political economy-based, socialist-accented approach to the transformation debate, focusing on the search for possibilities for action and thus on ideas of a transformation process within everyday social life. It addresses the debate on sustainability 'from below' without minimising the importance of government action, or of the activities of official international organisations and treaties. The central concern of the paper is to contribute to the development of an independent understanding of one's own thinking and action on the part of relevant agencies.

This chapter aims to make reading the third volume of Capital a challenge and a productive resour... more This chapter aims to make reading the third volume of Capital a challenge and a productive resource for contemporary debates. To do so, it combines a careful consideration of the sources made available by the Marx-Engels-Gesamtausgabe (MEGA2) edition with an insistent interrogation of Marx’s reasons for not finishing Capital in the ‘aesthetic form’ he originally planned. From here, it goes on to look at the reception of Capital and its third and concluding volume, in particular, in Marxist politics (singling out the theoretical efforts of Lenin and Gramsci). The work ‘invested’ in order to make Capital in its entirety, as presented in a theoretically integrated way in Volume III, useful for a politics of overcoming the domination of capital is then discussed, while focusing on the relation of science and politics. This is then turned into an appeal to present debates making full use of the scientific and analytical resources Capital as a whole still has to offer. In this way, we hope to address an invitation—to readers, but also to our authors—to continue the debate on how to scientifically grasp the structures, mechanisms and tendencies of the domination of the capitalist mode of production, and how to make use of such insights to turn anti-capitalist struggles into a forceful reality again.

Marx had witnessed the development of private property through litigation surrounding theft of wood from what had been common land. So, according to Oishi, Marx focused thereafter on the essence of private property leading to the importance of estranged labour in his earlier 1844 Manuscripts. In Poverty Marx understands Proudhon as eternalising economic categories in the same way as the classical economists (albeit via a detour), and, for Marx, this represents a contradiction to the actual historical emergence of private property in the then recent times. Having witnessed the emergence of private property in Germany, Marx breaks with such an eternalisation, and thereby with the analytical method used by the classical economists. Oishi's primary theme is the continuity and unity of Marx's thought centred upon the principle of estranged or alienated labour. For Oishi, the importance of alienated labour had been negated by Soviet Marxists and Western followers when, for him, there was no rupture or break in Marx's own thought as he matures. White (1996), like Oishi, sees little change in Marx's basic scheme after the emphasis on alienated labor and private property in the 1844 Manuscripts ; the later 'abstract labour' is little more than a substitution for alienated labour, and 'surplus value' a substitution for private property (pp. 146-147; see also p. 199). Unlike Oishi, however, White sees a major shift in Marx's late thought away from the importance of Hegel. We shall return to White, as we argue major conceptual changes by Marx as his thought evolves. Returning to Oishi (p. 135), he does equate alienated labour to labour under the control of others. How capitalism would be distinguished from slavery is thus not clear.
