Therefore, it is essential to examine students’ communication skills to ascertain whether they have adequate competence or not. In this regard, this research endeavored to determine the contextual communication competence of 266 Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BA Comm) students in one prime state university in Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines. Through a quantitative-descriptive research design, one result revealed that BA Comm students are able to use their understanding of successful and appropriate communication patterns in public, meeting, group, and dyad situations with an average level of contextual communication competence. On the same level, BA Comm majors are committed to the field because they have the necessary communication abilities to adapt and improve various communication tactics when conversin...

As a result, this study aimed to clarify this issue by exploring the experiences and viewpoints of teacher-Tiktokerists or TeachTokerists in the Philippines to comprehend Tiktok’s function in the field of education. Using Edmund Husserl’s (descriptive) phenomenology, the findings revealed that TeachTokerists are from all over the Philippines, handling various courses in primary education. Most were aware of the app before the pandemic but only started using it during the pandemic-related lockdowns. The acronym “EDU”, which refers to E - Entertainment Purposes, D - Development of Content, and U - understanding oneself and others, is an example of why teachers in the Philippines are on Tiktok. The acronym “TOK” was developed by the researchers based on the themes they identified regarding the roles TikTok has made i...

However, most students still experience challenges when communicating with their instructors in written form, especially first-year university students. Henceforth, this study aimed to understand the written communication challenges of freshman Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BACOM) students of S.Y. 2020-2021. Specifically, the study intended to determine the challenges encountered by the participants in written correspondence with their instructors in terms of online learning, the consequences of the challenges identified, and the ways to improve written communication between the participants and their instructors. This qualitative study used Hermeneutic Phenomenology in one state university in Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines. Data was gathered through an online focus group interview which was analyzed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis. Findings of the study show that the major challenges endured by the students are uncertainty, sensitivity, comprehension deficit, poor internet connection, and grammar inaccuracies. As a result of these difficulties, the outcomes identified by the students are delayed inquiries, poor performance, low self-esteem, and a communication gap. Based on the students' suggestions, effective written communication can be improved between instructors and students by employing empathy, online etiquette, systematized platform, initiative, feedback, cooperation, clarity of instructions, clarity of concerns, and open communication. Chiefly, this study demonstrates that both students and instructors should be aware of their respective roles and duties to establish healthy, productive, and effective learning and communication now that the learning system has shifted online.

Students have to learn from their instructors in an online platform in two methods: synchronous and asynchronous learning. With all these pieces of information in mind, this study was conducted to examine the preferences of 143 Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BACOM) learners in one state university in Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines regarding synchronous and asynchronous learning through a valid and reliable questionnaire distributed via Google Form. In a nutshell, more BACOM learners preferred synchronous learning because it allows for collective learning and interactions in real-time which can alleviate the sense of isolation that asynchronous learning brings, and they found it easier and more manageable to navigate synchronous learning than asynchronous learning. Notably, second-year BACOM learners recorded the highest average preference on synchronous learni...

Consequently, this study aimed to examine the participation of the residents as well as the effectiveness of the festival itself. The results showed that passive participation (level 2) is the most prevalent. It implies that the residents are interested in having joint effort with the Local Government Unit (LGU) and with the organizers of the cultural festival. The tools to enhance effective community engagement in Albubo Festival were informing decisions, building capacity, and strengthening relationships. The results also revealed that there is an insignificant relationship between the level of participation of Buguias residents on the Albubo Festival and its effectiveness in community engagement. It implies that the level of participation of the residents does not influence the level of effectiveness of the Albubo Festival in community engagement o...

To fill this gap, this study sought to highlight the pedagogical practices and teaching experiences of award-winning educators in a State University. The qualitative data extracted from semi-structured interviews were analyzed following a thematic analysis based on descriptive phenomenology. One finding revealed that the educators’ years in service and educational attainments were helpful in their migration from face-to-face to distance education, even though the number of course preparations was a weight on their shoulders. Secondly, the educators conducted their classes through preparation and implementation via fifteen instructional methods, formative and summative assessments, and feedback. On another note, the educators determined six roadblocks in their teaching practice with explanations on how they overcame them. Amidst all these, they mentioned that it is impe...

Hence, this study aimed to fathom the Online Collaborative Learning (OCL) experiences in undergraduate thesis writing of Bachelor of Arts in Communication and English Language students in a prime state university in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines. Notably, this study focused on undergraduate students’ benefits, challenges, and suggestions. Employing qualitative phenomenological research, the data were gathered through semi-structured one-on-one in-depth interviews. They were analyzed following the phases of thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke (2006). Ergo, the following themes were generated. First, the benefits included joint responsibility, which envelopes (a) a divided workload and (b) shared ideas and flexible communication. Second, the challenges were composed of external problems that bracket (a...
