Given its complexity, the latter of these methods has not been the subject of much research until now. Therefore, the scope of its applicability as well as its relative advantages and disadvantages with respect to the other methods remain to a large extent uncertain. The aim of the present paper is to contribute to a better understanding of the background and practical use of these methods. To that end, a brief introduction to the background of these methods, as well as their application to non-stiffened and stiffened plated structures is first included. Then, the article reproduces a comparative evaluation of these methods, based on the parametric study carried on the paper 'Estudio comparativo de los metodos de calculo propuestos en l...

This contribution analyses the improvements in sustainability that a change in the aforementioned reinforcement configuration might provide in a flyover bridge. Economic, environmental and social parameters of both possibilities were studied by means of the integrated value model for sustainable assessment use (Modelo Integrado de Valor para una Evaluación Sostenible, MIVES) used in Spain, which is a multi-criteria decision-making method based on the value function concept and the seminars delivered by experts. The results of the MIVES method showed that the use of PFRC in combination with reinforced concrete (RC) has a sustainability index 22% higher. An analysis of the parameters that form this evaluation shows that there are no remarkable differences in the financial costs bet...
