This research takes a ‘victim’ perspective focusing on their traumatic experiences of intrafamilial physical and sexual abuses, the way the (ex) members of pandilla perceived the abuse, and how it influenced their decision to join street gangs. The implications derived from this research present useful tools for moving toward creative and proactive prevention strategies - also for the Catholic Church - taking into account the importance of creating a more safe and nurturing environment for the children and youth in Managua.
