The article raises the mutual relationship between the professional work of Social Work in our en... more The article raises the mutual relationship between the professional work of Social Work in our environment and its links with what the author understands as "gerontological thinking", differentiating the scope of the profession of Social Work and Gerontology as an interdiscipline that serves as a framework Indicative to the actions of the Social Work. It gives account of the attention of majors from that optics in conjunction, describing some of the current professional projects. Averaging its development, they specify ways and paths by which Social Work in the gerontological field is transiting both in the investigative plane and in the intervention, pointing out some of the obstacles faced by the action of social workers over the older adult population in Argentina, showing that currently there seems to be a marked distance between the recommendations that, for example, are registered in the Inter-American Convention for the Protection of Human Rights of Older Persons (OAS), which makes a specific reference to the guidelines policies aimed at the older adult population of the region.
