The corpus consists of 1998, 2001 exams of the Exame Nacional de Cursos – ENC (Provão), and 2008, 2011, 2014, 2017 exams of the Exame Nacional de Desempenho de Estudantes – Enade. The bibliographical methodology research and the foundation of the work base on the dialogical language theory by Bakhtin and the Circle, in the conceptions of concrete verbal-visual statements, active and creative understanding dialogical relationships combining with the studies of verbal-visual dimension of the statements developed by Brait (2009; 2012a; 2012b; 2013a; 2013b). This research elucidates the need of reflection of the place of verbal-visuality in national assessments and its features considered in verbal-visuality use process of high education students in Brazil. The analyses point out that the treatment of the materiality of some verbal-visual statements in objective or discursive questions is insufficient to the contribution of the importance of the dimension of verbal-visuality extension as indissoluble in the selected exams, even though, there are some in them, for instance, such as comic strips, cartoons, charges, graphic, etc. in linguistics reflection questions offering a contribution to a determined aspect of the language phenomenon in small and objective texts to the issues of the involved questions. The verbal-visuality moved on by Bakhtinian thought is totally possible, it fulfills an enormous gap in the reading act of the contemporaneity and in the teaching of that act, but it implies commitment and theoretical and methodological accuracy says Brait (2013b). Those genres point out notions and diversified knowledge objects, though the context seems to be the same, as in some of the described and analyzed samples in this work, they demand production format, style and theme, essentially they suggest discursive and textual differences, spite of the constants fails we found on the treatment of certain genres in the analyzed exams, such as the comic strips, cartoons, and charges which were imprecisely named or called in generic ways and set on the same category were simply called short stories, image, picture or illustration mainly in Enade exams, we still noticed the lack of reference for involved genres in some question wordings, the hypothesis of the importance of their verbal-visuality, even though, those aspects seemed to us that they are setting down gradually, as a matter of fact, in this scenario that belongs to the national assessments of higher education.
