Tem-se hoje 231 unidades de atencao primaria, responsaveis pelo diagnostico de tuberculose, que se mantem como um dos maiores desafios. O objetivo deste estudo e subsidiar discussoes para o planejamento e controle da tuberculose na cidade.

Objective: To report the results of a workshop regarding asthma management programs and centers (... more Objective: To report the results of a workshop regarding asthma management programs and centers (AMPCs) in Brazil, so that they can be used as a tool for the improvement and advancement of current and future AMPCs. Methods: The workshop consisted of five presentations and the corresponding group discussions. The working groups discussed the following themes: implementation of asthma management strategies; human resources needed for AMPCs; financial resources needed for AMPCs; and operational maintenance of AMPCs. Results: The workshop involved 39 participants, from all regions of the country, representing associations of asthma patients (n = 3), universities (n = 7), and AMPCs (n = 29). We found a direct relationship between a lack of planning and the failure of AMPCs. Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways, particularly sensitive to specific and nonspeci... more Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways, particularly sensitive to specific and nonspecific stimuli leading to an intense and quick response of all of bronchiolar system. The airways become inflamed, producing thick mucus and rapid narrowing of the airways. These changes lead to the patient to cough, wheezing, chest pain and dyspnea. Asthma is a global health problem and its prevalence is increasing both children and adults. The World Health Organization estimates that at least 155 million in the world are asthmatics. Asthma represents 0.4% of all deaths in hospitalized patients, which is a very high as there are effective treatments for your control. The authors present a review of the treatment and management of asthma. The aim of this study is to update and rationalize the use of medications in asthma from the analysis of the control of the disease.
Although during the last few years there have been several important changes in the diagnostic or... more Although during the last few years there have been several important changes in the diagnostic or therapeutic methods, pleural effusion is still one of the diseases that the respiratory specialist have to evaluate frequently. The aim of this paper is to update the knowledge about pleural effusions, rather than to review the causes of pleural diseases exhaustively. These recommendations have a longer extension for the subjects with a direct clinical usefulness, but a slight update of other pleural diseases has been also included. Among the main scientific advantages are included the thoracic ultrasonography, the intrapleural fibrinolytics, the pleurodesis agents, or the new pleural drainages techniques.
