Lean, Moizer, Derham, Strachan and Bhuiyan aim to evaluate the role of simulations and games in real world learning. The nature of simulations and games is discussed with reference to a variety of examples in Higher Education. Their role in real world learning is evaluated with reference to the benefits and challenges of their use for teaching and learning in Higher Education. Three case studies from diverse subject contexts are reported to illustrate the use of simulations and games and some of the associated issues.

Firstly, we sought to discuss how role-play assessment is designed and structured around the intended learning outcomes (ILOs) set for this module. The second objective was to evaluate the assessment approach, drawing on relevant literature on the importance of debriefing exercises for reflective learning when using SGs. Our third objective was to consider the challenges and benefits of assessing student learning using this approach.

B2B 12 adopted at different levels based on different resource endowments leads to competitive 13 advantage being gained and sustained in proportion to that level of adoption. This study uses 14 structural equation modelling to investigate how levels of B2B e-commerce adoption affects and 15 contributes to gaining and sustaining competitive advantage in both US and Egyptian 16 manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises. The key finding is that small and medium17 sized enterprises can achieve growth in market share and sales that helps them to improve their 18 position in the global market through higher levels of business-to-business e-commerce adoption. 19 Implications of the study, its limitations and directions for future research are also discussed. 20

However, there is a lack of research linking transformational leadership, knowledge sharing, and innovation within higher education, specifically within developing countries such as Iraq. This research seeks to examine the linkages between transformational leadership, knowledge sharing and innovation in higher education. The study involved surveying 250 academic staff based in Iraqi public universities. A model was developed and tested using structural equation modelling. A positive direct impact was found amongst transformational leadership, knowledge sharing and innovation. Moreover, knowledge sharing was identified as a mediator between transformational leadership and innovation. The implications of the findings for higher education institutions are discussed.

Testing theories of identity development usually involve complex longitudinal studies, but the testing may be facilitated through the use of business simulation gaming. Using a quasi-experimental research design, the paper explores how entrepreneurial microidentity is formed among business undergraduates during the initial entrepreneurial

A survey of 516 UK women and men of prestate retirement age was used to establish interrelationships between gender, retirement planning, and financial literacy, taking account of attitudinal and expectational variables. Findings confirm lower levels of planning among women, but contrary to previous studies, this study reveals that financial literacy is not significantly related to planning. Furthermore, when attitudinal and expectational variables are incorporated as independent variables, gender becomes statistically insignificant as a determinant of planning.

Business focused serious games can provide students with an authentic learning experience and their use has been increasingly taken up by business school faculty, including those delivering entrepreneurship education (EE). The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the impact of participation in a serious business game on the entrepreneurial intent (EI) of undergraduate students. Design/methodology/approach The study adopts a pre-test/post-test quasi-experimental design. It employs a modified version of Linan et al.’s (2011) EI model in the form of a questionnaire survey completed by 263 undergraduate business and management students. Findings A logic regression model was used to analyse the survey responses. The research findings indicate that the serious game used in this study has a significant negative impact on EI. Gender and role model effects are also identified from the a...

Overcoming these barriers enables System Dynamics to reach prospective beneficiaries who may not have considered modelling as a means of addressing dynamically complex, multi-faceted issues that are widespread in community healthcare. This paper aims to improve script selection, achieving effective results for participants involved in validating multi-agent, policy alternatives. By studying targeted elicitation techniques from system dynamics and elsewhere, it is possible to shed light on how learning from scripts for modelling in system dynamics can inform other problem structuring methods for engaging management decision makers. Index Terms-Group model building, scripts pilot, multi-agency engagement.

Developed from student interviews, a causal loop diagram is pre-sented which distills the relationships between the key learning variables. The diagram demonstrates that reinforcing behavior is at work in the lear-ning process, with students being caught up in either a virtuous or vicious cycle of learning. A key determinant of the path followed by students is module design which is inherently linked to both students' motivation to play the game and their understanding of the associations between strate-gizing and resulting business performance.

In this paper, a case study using multimethodological modelling to compare alterative policy choice in a group context is outlined with respect to response-patrol officer (RPO) deployment within a UK police force. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – The application of a three phase modelling process is illustrated where scenario planning is used to generate the scope of the system elements to be modelled. This is followed by causal mapping to identify the barriers to improving officer resourcing, and system dynamics modelling is used to simulate the impacts of a range of policy options within this policing function. A group model building approach was applied throughout the modelling phases with an expert group to negotiate a shared view of the structure and dynamics of the resourcing policy ...

A questionnaire survey based on specific "dimensions" of organisational culture was circulated to staff prior to the merger date. Overall, the results indicated a generally congruent culture characterised by a strong team spirit and commitment to the workplace. A number of differences were observed between the cultural orientations of the seven councils, but there was only weak evidence of differences between tiers of management or professional groupings. The study suggests that the new organisation will have to find ways of "unfreezing" staff from their established ways of thinking and working before changes can be properly embedded. It is recommended that the organisational change process shifts from a top-down "planned" approach to a more "emergent" approach to facilitate learning and organisational development.
