
João Fiadeiro
João Fiadeiro (1965) is a Portuguese performer, choreographer, researcher, teacher and curator. He belongs to the generation of artists who emerged in the late eighties in Portugal and gave rise to the New Portuguese Dance movement. He is the artistic director of ATELIER RE.AL a structure that plays a major role in the development of contemporary dance and trans-disciplinary initiatives in Portugal. João Fiadeiro has tour extensively throughout Europe, North and South America with his solo and group works. In the 90’ João Fiadeiro studied and practiced intensively Contact-Improvisation which led him to pursue and systematize his own research on improvisation under the designation of Real Time Composition, a research designed initially to support the choreographic and dramaturgical research of his works, currently asserts itself as a theoretical and practical tool and platform for thinking about decision, representation and collaboration at large. This investigation takes place within the framework of art and in collaboration with the most diverse disciplines – economics, anthropology or the sciences of complex systems – and has led him to guide workshops in master’s and doctoral programs at Portuguese and foreign universities. He currently attends a PhD in Contemporary Art from the College of Arts in Coimbra.
