The main feature is the 830 m long cable-stayed bridge with a 380 m central span, required to comply with the new navigation requisites. The entire deck is made of prestressed precast concrete sections. With the aim of unifying the construction solutions for both the main bridge and approach viaducts as well as the secondary branches a precast segmental solution was chosen.

It is therefore 645 m long with a span distribution of 60-75-150-75x5-60. Such arrangement, with one large 150 m span, is determined by the crossing of the Tera River, spanned by an arch. The deck is supported in the arch keystone, which enables constant modulation of the spans throughout the whole viaduct, keeping the same deck cross section and using incremental launching as construction method. The metal section arch was installed by rotating the semi-arches.

A marked difference in the ground elevations between the riverbanks enabled a stressribbon type suspended footbridge. The total footbridge length is 110 m including the two anchor abutments and the central 90 m long suspended deck with a sag of only 1.72 m (1/50L). To simplify the erection and the marked geometrical and material non-linear response, the supporting tensile force in this work is provided exclusively by means of a continuous 3600x35 mm S355 weathering-steel plate. This arrangement enabled us to place the concrete platform directly over the plate without a longitudinal collaboration between the two elements. Due to the flexible response of these structures, special attention was paid to the dynamic analysis under pedestrian and wind variable loads. Detailed dynamic tests were carried out to verify that real accelerations matched the estimated analytical values.

This called for a new road network to connect the crossing with the urban fabric, which turned the new bridge in an axis marking the westward expansion of the city. The total length of the bridge is 424.5 m. It consists of 6 spans, with three 92 m long spans over the river. The deck is a 14.7 m wide box section girder with variable depth, made of prestressed concrete, using white structural concrete. It was built by balanced cantilevers. On the left riverbank, a roundabout connection was built to connect the bridge with road network. The proximity of the historic hull and the mediaeval bridge were strong conditioning factors in the design, which looks like a multiple archway with large voids over the piers, resembling relieving arches.

It has the longest span and the highest pylon in Ireland. This bridge has a number of characteristics which make it singular. Most of its ...

Abstract This paper presents two examples of spatial curved-arch bridges recently built in Spain:... more Abstract This paper presents two examples of spatial curved-arch bridges recently built in Spain: the bridge over the Galindo River in Vizcaya and the Endarlatsa Bridge over the Bidasoa River. Both bridges have curved decks supported by arches (an upper solution in the Galindo river bridge and a lower arch in the Endarlatsa bridge), but the solution used moves away from the classic planar arches normally employed in these decks: their arch centreline follows in plan the curved deck alignement, resulting in a warped geometry. For that reason, they are in the strict sense spatial arches, curved both in plan and in elevation. Different solutions were used in each of them to resist the out-of-plane forces that appear in warped arches. In the Galindo bridge with active forces introduced with auxiliary cables. In the Endarlatsa bridge with an adequate distribution of the transverse stiffness of the arch and the support conditions of the deck over it. This approach is quite innovative in arch bridges—they are unique examples of this kind of structures—;and creates interesting solutions both from the structural and the aesthetic points of view.
