A preliminary overview of details about the last Syrian-Orthodox bishop of Diyarbakir Mor Dionysi... more A preliminary overview of details about the last Syrian-Orthodox bishop of Diyarbakir Mor Dionysius. His intriguing career deserves some further research. He represented his church (as millet) in Istanbul in the 1880's, became metropolitan of Harput in 1896 (immediately after the massacres there) and metropolitan of Diyarbakir in 1917 (again just after the Saipho, or rather in the aftermath of the Saipho). He was actively involved in the debate on the relationship with the Turkish government, Armenian cultural influences and the secularists in the late 19th and early 20th century. In addition he had a substantial manuscript collection and contacts with western scholars.
