When buying products through the Web, as with traditional face-to-face buying, individuals may be faced with contract clauses that they should not accept. Some of those clauses may be even deceitful yet legally binding. This paper looks into whether Web buyers can identify deceit in software purchasing contracts. An experimental study was conducted in which subjects were asked to either accept or reject each of several clauses of a software-purchasing contract, some of which were deceitful. Two experimental conditions were used. In one of the conditions the clauses were displayed as Web-based video clips; in the other they were displayed as Web-based text windows. The main finding was that the subjects performed worse than chance in identifying deceitful clauses. The study raises a red flag regarding Web-based contracts. This ERP acquisition process model includes six distinctive, yet interrelated, processes (planning, information search, selection, evaluation, choice, and negotiations). This paper depicts the principal processes and many of the constituent activities, issues, dynamics, and complexities that pertain to the acquisition of ERP software. The results from this study contribute to the identification of processes that are part of this type of acquisition. Further, this model also suggests complexities that are worthy of further investigation, in and of themselves, if for no other reason than that they could prove the limit of generalizability of the model.

Yet there has been little research on ES contracting approaches, and how those approaches relate to the previous literature on productivity gains from spending on those systems. Building on the IT productivity paradox notion, this paper proposes a model of divergent ES contracting approaches in the service and manufacturing sectors. Two main ES contracting approaches are defined-the revisionist-adversarial approach, associated with ES contracting elements geared at potentially short-term and change-oriented relationships with ES vendors; and the preservationist-cooperative approach, associated with ES contracting elements aimed at mutual cooperation over the long run with ES vendors. It is proposed that service sector organisations generally display a preference toward the revisionist-adversarial approach, whereas manufacturing sector organisations generally display a preference toward a preservationist-cooperative approach. These propositions, which are aligned with the IT productivity paradox phenomenon, are supported by a survey of 116 organisations.

This paper reports on an empirical study that investigates the factors that associated with interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of social work. The study findings show that collaboration among interdisciplinary professional engages various elements including ‘Collective Ownership of Goals’, ‘Reflection on Process’, ‘Interdependence’, ‘Communication’, ‘Openness’, and ‘Trust’. The findings also reveal that there are relationships among some of the factors, facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration. The study will have significant contribution to both theory and practice in the field of social work. While the findings shed light on the element...

The study aims for identifying factors influencing the quality of team collaboration. The study examines the impact of trust and technology orientation on collaboration with the mediating effects of communication, coordination, and cooperation. The results of the study validate that (1) collaboration has positive and significant relationship with coordination, and cooperation; (2) trust has positive and significant relationship with communication, coordination, and cooperation; and (3) technology orientation has positive and significant relationship with cooperation but not with communication and coordination. The research and managerial implications of these factors are given in the discussion. The results can be used by healthcare professionals and managers to advance their understanding on the impact of trust and te...

Without appropriate training, serious contractual mistakes may be made, some of which are likely to place the DoD in a situation where it is legally bound to abide by adverse contract clauses. Given the large dollar amounts involved in many of the DoD's contracts, the financial consequences of such mistakes can be significant. The emergence of the Internet and the World Wide Web in the 1990s has led to a significant growth in the purchase of products and services online. Most of these online transactions include the reviewing, completion, and signing of a Web-based contract. That process usually gravitates around the acceptance or rejection of Web-based contract clauses. This paper reports on an experimental study in which 178 student subjects without formal training in contracting issues were asked to accept or reject each of 20 clauses of a softwa...

Although, there are different models or methodologies to develop systems with different purposes, but there is no such comprehensive or complete one for knowledge management systems. The reason may be the complexity and the variety of related topics in knowledge management, which is an interdisciplinary field. This paper attempts to provide such a framework, which combines task and generic approaches to propose a development life cycle for knowledge management systems. This framework demonstrates the system that deals with specific activities and organizational knowledge.

In healthcare, quality of service can literally mean life and death. This paper investigates how quality of output is facilitated in a healthcare setting. Drawing from quality of output and information communication technologies research streams we develop a survey instrument to study healthcare quality and its antecedent factors. These factors are communication, information sharing, conflict resolution and interdependence. We test our model using a second generation multivariate statistical method. Our results show that communication facilitates quality through interdependence and conflict resolution. Moreover, information sharing capabilities mediate the relationship between communication and interdependence
